| | Andy Williams Christmas Album CD (1963) Remastered
Made II Praise music CDs
$6.09 Popular songs are often associated with the vocalists that made them famous but few artists actually have the distinction of having a "theme" song along the lines of Bob Hope with "Thanks for the Memories." Even fewer can claim to have two theme songs attached to them and Andy Williams is one of those fortunate stars. After "Moon River" became forever linked to Williams, he recorded a holiday song for his first Christmas album that gave him a yuletide hit and theme song. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was the right song at the right time for Williams when he began to perform it on his highly successful NBC Christmas specials that featured the whole Williams clan. Both the song and the television specials were so memorable, it wasn't long before Williams was crowned "Mr. Christmas." Of course having a full album of wonderful holiday songs perfectly performed doesn't hurt either and the Andy Williams Christmas Album was an instant hit when released in 1963 and has since become a traditional classic. Along with "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," Williams cheerfully celebrates with the spirited medley "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season" and is at his playful best on the irresistibly raucous "Kay Thompson's Jingle Bells." He also wraps his voice around ...

$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next ...

Made II Praise songs
$14.25 The husband-and-wife duo of Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett created some of the most distinctive and unique music of the early 1970s, but their alchemical sound -- equal parts blue-eyed soul, blues, country, and gospel -- was often marginalized by the attention instead paid to the contributions of their famous "friends," including rock icons like Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and George Harrison. Included in Home are ...
| | Charlotte Hatherley Grey Will Fade CD (2004) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Made II Praise album
$36.09 Having joined the successful Irish band Ash in 1997 as bass player, in 2004 Charlotte Hatherley felt it was time to attempt a first album of her own. The results justified her feeling that her own ideas were more expansive than the mostly straight-ahead rock approach of Ash. Supporting her in her self-assurance were two well established musicians (known from collaborations with PJ Harvey and many others), Eric Drew Feldman (playing keyboards and producing), and Rob Ellis (on drums). Moreover, the album was recorded not, as one would expect, in Britain, but in Los Angeles. Although the album proves that Hatherley is a talent in her own right, it does get off to a shaky start. It begins with a bow to "Kim Wilde" (a slightly unsettling surprise in itself, coming from someone with more originality and a more expressive vocal talent!), a rambling, very fussy, convoluted song that doesn't seem to succeed in taking the listener anywhere in particular (more like: "what was that about?!"), and second song "Rescue Plan" also doesn't serve as what that title suggests -- the album still threatens to sink into a fog of tunelessness. The dramatic turnaround comes with third song "Paragon," a seamless, exhilarating ...

| | Moacir Santos Choros & Alegrias CD (2005) (Import) Brazil
Made II Praise music CDs
$30.55 CHOROS & ALEGRIAS is the 2005 release featuring Brazilian jazz musician Moacir Santos.
Adventure Music is promoting Choros & Alegria, its beautifully rendered follow-up to 2004's critically acclaimed first tribute to behind-the-scenes Brazilian musical genius Moacir Santos (Ouro Negro), with the tag line: "You don't have to apologize if you don't know who he is." The moral of this beautiful Brazilian story is, you don't have to be a global legend like Sergio Mendes, Milton Nascimento, or Ivan Lins to inspire the Brazilian music world. A composer, arranger, reed player, and teacher for many decades, Santos is considered a living monument to the musical treasures that have come from his country. Producers Mario Adnet and Ze Nogueira, who also presented the first collection, have put together magical, often orchestrated traditional arrangements of never before recorded Santos tunes from various decades, starting in the '40s (the seductive trumpet-spiced "Cleonix") and continuing through 1991's lush piano-choir anthem "Felipe." Perfectly in line with the spirit of discovery that drives the 15-song collection, most of the musicians are famed Rio cats you've never heard of, with the notable exception of guitarist Ricardo Silveira and Wynton Marsalis. The material was recorded in 2005 in Rio and Sao Paulo under the direct supervision of the 79-year-old Moacir, who is no doubt too old to tour but can't help but be pleased by the newfound attention given this most precious work. ~ Jonathan Widran
