Boomtown Rats album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin Hawkins of the Darkness all elbow each other for space here, creating cheerful genre-bending where Sweet gives way to the Scissor Sisters, and it's never, ever necessary for a listener to recognize the allusions, either the ...

$15.30 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. Boomtown Rats songs
$6.69 Hi. My name's Ernie. I'm from the far west Texas town of El Paso. I was born in the 70's and grew up listening to not much other than The Stones, thanks to my fanatical uncles. I thought Keith Richards was the coolest guy ever. That may have had something to do with the fact that my best friend growing up had a long neck, a hollow body, one nut and six strings. I played in several garage bands in high school; either drums, guitar, or bass. There's not a whole lot else to do in El Paso. Seriously...In 1993, I moved to Austin, Tx. It was there that I discovered two things that changed my life. The first was that I really wasn't cut out for Criminal Justice. Secondly, and more importantly, was something I had never seen before...a thriving music scene. I dove in head first and co-founded a band called Sour Mash Jack. I played bass, sang back-ups, and helped write the songs. We put out a self-released record, toured a bit(opening for the likes of David Garza, Ian Moore, Chris Duarte, Paul Rogers, Edgar Winter, blah, blah, name dropping) and eventually moved to LA. Six months after we moved in together, we broke up. That seems to happen whenever I move in with anybody. I live with my dog now...I decided to stay in SoCal, and wound up playing, writing, recording, and touring with many amazing songwriters and musicians.(more name dropping...Kristian Hoffman, El-Vez, Ann Magnuson, Jaime Cabrera, Tommy Mora, 29 Mules, Symptoms of Madness, Laughing with Lulu, Lik, Nova Blue, Charlene Johnson, blah, blah, blah) Probably the coolest of these was a band my buddy Erik and I started, called Penny. We released one full length record in 2002..."15 Electric." We were also on the Hotel Cafe's 1st compilation record. You can find either of those on CD Baby. But, as all good things tend to, it came to an end. I felt an overwhelming need to front my own outfit and write my own songs...Significant life changes brought me to North County in 2006, where I encountered Stephen Johnson. Similar taste in music and an unusual love of Coors light brought us together in a way that only those two things can. Shortly thereafter, we found DB and Aaron. I had just about finished recording a solo EP and decided to have a record release show ...
