Abomination: The Anthology album
$13.09 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral renditions of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" ...

Abomination: The Anthology album
$9.89 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.

Abomination: The Anthology songs
$14.25 "Definitely not mainstream pop." - Universal MusicAnything but mainstream, yet decidedly accessible music for the masses. 'Child of God' is a focusing of energies for Lisa M. Robbin. Still a very eccletic mix, with instrumental and vocal pieces, 'Child of God' takes the best of 'Facets' and augments it. Call it Christian Jazz, if you will."Facets was a more vanilla, middle of the road project. It was designed to show versatility and diversity in my music." Lisa says. "Child of God was a total re-work of what I knew music to be. This project very nearly is a 180 from where I thought I'd be today."Indeed. Lisa's second release was originally slated to be "Lunchtime at Winston's" - a collection of tunes written and arranged during lunch at a local bar. Instead, after a year of major life-changing events, Lisa has turned her eyes to God."He's the only reason I'm still alive, still playing, still touching lives," she reflects. "After facing living on the streets with a small child, you start to think about what really matters."Ironically, it was through music that she found her salvation. The title cut from "Child of God" is a personal exposition of her relationship with God, and how each of us has been born with that connection to Him.The tracks on this CD are nearly all originals, including a re-release of "He's a King" from 'Facets'. "The song recieved so much positive ...
