Order Of The Morning Star CD music
$8.49 Whether or not it is his intention, Justin Broadrick's Jesu project continues to move into ever more song-oriented material, while never lessening the volume or the sheer melodic thud of his attack. Opiate Sun is released on Mark Kozelek's Cabo Verde imprint. Initially, it was conceived as the first of a projected two-part EP idea: Broadrick originally wanted each EP to feature a collaboration between his live (Dave Cochrane and Phil Petrocelli) and studio (Ted ...

| | Rex Moroux Royal Street Inn CD (2006)
Order Of The Morning Star CD music
$10.15 âIâve been a drunk, a lover, occasional liar, sweetheart, asshole, unemployed troublemaker, raconteur, bon vivant, wannabe Teddy boy, wannabe Bob Dylan, and on occasion a pretty goddamned good boyfriend.âThatâs Austin singer/songwriter Rex Morouxâs capsule self-assessment, offered not as lyrics in a confessional tune â though the sentence does take on a sweet little rhythm â but in answer to a question regarding what jobs he held before embarking on his music career. And if the Lafayette, La., native couldnât express himself musically, he says, âI hope I would have access to morphine, Gertrude Steinâs âThe Making of Americansâ and air-conditioning, because thatâs about the only other three things I could see myself doing.â Moroux doesnât mention that heâs funny, self-deprecating and whip-smart â and actually, pretty honest â but those traits come through in his conversation and his music, a rootsy amalgam of influences as vast as the record collection amassed by his late father, who DJed in high school.Fortunately, Moroux, 28, has been able to devote himself to developing his art â and his second album, âRoyal Street Inn,â named for a New Orleans hostel, is filled with the winning results. Moroux started composing songs while living in Los Angeles, where heâd gone in 2000 to write for a playhouse after attending Loyola in New Orleans and the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. Heâd already written a play and wound up doing some pieces for actorsâ workshops, but once he discovered songwriting, he says, âI knew thatâs what I really wanted to do.âItâs such a beautiful, simple, and wonderfully enlightening form,â Moroux explains. âI view songs as immortal; they are on the wind, they canât be burned or banned⊠I grew up in the heart of Cajun Louisiana, so it always seemed like music was in the air. It usually was, but even when it was silent, someone was crying. I think thatâs what it comes down to. People who write honest songs are criers. I donât like to cry, normally; I have to control it, then itâs like an orgasm. Thatâs why I do this.âHe began performing at coffeehouses in L.A., doing what he calls his âpseudopolitical, Marxism lite songsâ (âI was a Dylanophile, like most people,â is his explanation). He loved it, and was well received, but a family tragedy drew him back to Louisiana. His beloved first cousin, a football player for the University of Florida, died of heat stroke during a practice. ...
| | Ian Siegal Bigger Plate Of Meat & Potatoes CD (2006)
Order Of The Morning Star music CDs
$25.59 The titular "bigger plate" refers to an additional DVD now included with the original studio audio CD. This features a 90-minute show of a smoking, in more ways than one, performance of the Ian Siegal band at the North Sea Jazz Festival on tour to promote his Meat & Potatoes album. The simple answer to the obvious question of whether this justifies buying the album again for those who already own it is an unqualified yes. Siegal reprises six of the disc's songs and not only extends them but adds two covers that allow him even more room to stretch out. The closing "You Don't Love Me" is lengthened to a 15-minute centerpiece where Siegal wanders off on long but never boring talk/singing interludes that add an edge to his already spiked-up combination of blues, funk, and soul. His version of the Jimmy Liggins by way of Albert Collins "I Ain't Drunk" expands to over nine minutes. The total of those two tracks alone accounts for nearly a third of the show. Siegal's usual backing duo is also enhanced for this gig by guitarist Matt Schofield, a Nugene-signed act who is also Siegal's producer, and Schofield's keyboardist, Jonny Henderson. The beefed-up sound and extra musicians allow Siegal room to lay back, play occasional rhythm guitar, and even drop his instrument occasionally to concentrate on singing. It's somewhat disconcerting to hear that Howlin' Wolf-styled rasp emanate from Siegal's baby face, but his style, while obviously indebted to Wolf, never seems forced. He is also one of the few musicians to light a cigarette ...
