Billie Holiday album
$14.54 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice of producer, Jacquire King, best-known for his work with Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon, but King hardly pushes Norah in a rock direction; The Fall does bear some mild echoes of Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann in ballad mode, but its arrangements never call attention to themselves, the way that some Jon O'Brien productions do. Instead, the focus is always on Jones' voice and songs, which are once again all originals, sometimes composed ...
| | Tom Petty Live Anthology CDs (2009)
Billie Holiday CD music
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than Springsteen's box, plenty long enough for most fans, but in its deluxe version, available only through Best Buy, there's an additional CD, plus two previously unreleased DVDs -- a 1978 New Years Eve concert from Santa Monica, a documentary called 400 Days shot during the Wildflowers tour -- a Blu-Ray edition of all 62 tracks on the five-CD version, a vinyl copy of the 1976 Official Live 'Leg LP, plus a book and lithograph, along with other assorted bonuses. Certainly, the deluxe edition lives up to its billing, offering enough extras to justify its price tag, but the standard edition is plenty ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Billie Holiday music CDs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | Procol Harum Exotic Birds & Fruit CD (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Billie Holiday album
$11.65 By the time of this, its eighth album, in 1974, Procol Harum had weathered the departure of several key members. | | Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Eve And Other Stories CD (1996)
Billie Holiday CD music
$9.95 What would happen if members of Savatage decided to write some Christmas songs? Easy: Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This "supergroup" is the brainchild of Jon Oliva and Paul O'Neill (respectively the leader-keyboardist and the producer of Savatage). They hired Al Pitrelli (Asia, Savatage) to play guitars, Robert Kinkel to help with keyboards, John Middleton (also a member of Savatage) on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums. Lead vocals are shared by six vocalists, while some of the backing vocals are handled by Savatage lead singer Zachary Stevens. Christmas Eve and Other Stories is a concept album: all the songs are built as chapters of a book, each telling part of a larger story. The plot here is of a young angel sent down to Earth to find and bring back to the Lord "the one thing that best represents everything good that has been done in the name of this day." The angel's quest takes him all over the world, through Russia and Sarajevo, until he finally hears the prayer of a father. This last piece is the strongest moment on the album and makes for a miniature story within the larger story. It is basically told in a trilogy of songs: in the first, "Ornament," we hear the father's prayer, explaining how he hasn't seen his daughter in many years. In "Old City Bar," the angel finds the daughter, standing alone outside a bar, and talks to the bartender who, out of a random act of kindness, takes all the cash from his register ...
| | Ruth Brown Good Day For The Blues CD (1999)
Billie Holiday music CDs
$14.29 A GOOD DAY FOR THE BLUES was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
On the Grammy-nominated A GOOD DAY FOR THE BLUES, "Miss Rhythm" continued to show she could still show off plenty of sass and brass after 50 years in the music business. One of Brown's strengths is the way she treats a ballad, whether she's twisting and stretching out the standard "Never Let Me Go" or turning Steve Goodman's "A Lover Is Forever" into a cocktail-lounge weeper.
Backed by a crack band that includes talented guitarist Duke Robillard, Miss Brown keeps the mood entertaining. Standout numbers include the Dixieland traditional "Cabbage Head," the humorous "Can't Stand a Broke Man," and the childhood parable "H.B.'s Funky Fable," all in which Brown takes on the guise of characters (including a no-nonsense spouse and a variety of woodland creatures). Not surprisingly, Brown also excels at more upbeat material, including the snappy "Be Good to Me Tonight" and the Johnny Otis shuffle "Ice Water in Your Veins." The most unexpected turn comes on a reading of the R. Kelly smash "I Believe I Can Fly," which Brown turns into sweeping epic that benefits from a slow buildup.

Billie Holiday songs
$12.65 The former bass player and main writer/composer of venezuelan cult band âLa Seguridad Nacionalâ starts a new chapter in his career with this new and very listenable album. After three full decades walking the road of music and writing songs in spanish that have crossed the paths of Punk, Rockabilly, Folk, Blues and Rock & Roll, YATU is back in the spotlight and his sound is better than ever.âA Concienciaâ is the title of YATUâs first solo album, already a milestone in Venezuelan rock/pop music after its public debut at the Hard Rock CafĂ© Caracas on the 20th of September/2006. Since then Yatu has been dealing with a steady flow of media coverage, including TV appearances, radio shows and printed interviews. His fan base continues to grow as old and new followers alike embrace an artist who has been producing real music in Spanish for the last three decades. His work has influenced many other rock and pop bands in Venezuela, as evidenced by the radio success with songs written by YATU âEl Vampiroâ, âUñas Asesinasâ, âEl rap de la ciudadâ, âLa Lunaâ, âJoroporollâ and âNadie es de nadieââA Concienciaâ contains eleven heart-felt tracks, three of which are already on the playlists of many radio stations in Venezuela: âMi Oportunidadâ and âAmorâ were delivered as the first two singles, and most recently âNadie es de nadieâ (track No. 3 on the CD) is threatening to define itself as the albumâs smash hit. âA Concienciaâ is a very listenable album, perhaps surprisingly listenable coming from an artist who for many people still embodies the punk scene in Venezuela. But it is this Yatu, more mature, with more life experience, the Yatu that sings to a broad cross generational audience, an audience which proves in each of his live performances that age is no limit to lock onto YATUâs music. An in-depth story about Yatu can be read and seen in the Febuary 2007 Latin American edition of Rolling Stone magazine.More info and updates about Yatu available:www.yatumusic.comwww.myspace.com/yatumusicwww.cdboxproducciones.comwww.youtube.com/cdboxproduccioneswww.myspace.com/laseguridadnacional----------------------------------------------------------Juan Bautista LĂłpez, mejor conocido como YĂTU, es indudablemente un Ăcono para la historia del rock venezolano. | | Sojourners Hold On CD (2007)
Billie Holiday album
$13.49 Hold On, is the debut recording for the Vancouver based gospel vocal trio, Will Sanders, Ron Small and Marcus Mosely. All three are integral members of Vancouverâs premiere gospel choir, The Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir and they originally came together to appear on and make a very significant contribution to Jim Byrnesâ 2007 Juno Award winning CD House of Refuge. With minimal accompaniment, and produced and recorded live off the floor by Steve Dawson in Vancouver, Hold On captures the spirit of the âold schoolâ gospel recordings of the 1930âs and â40âs harmonies (in the tradition of such groups as The Swan Silvertones, The Golden Gate Quartet, The Soul Stirrers), combined with soulful multi-textured vocals reminiscent of Curtis Mayfieldâs famous trio, The Impressions.About The Sojourners Ron Small has numerous stage, film and television appearances to his credit, including an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, in 1958, as a member of the Fabulous Pearls. Will Sanders ...
