Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas album
$13.65 Lhasa's earlier work included arrangements that drew on ranchera and Gypsy music, as well as American, Canadian, and Mexican folk, French chanson, and pop. The international flavor is more subtle on LHASA, without vanishing entirely. The songs on the album all deal with love, usually of the obsessive, hopeless, and doomed variety, and even at her most seductive, as on the subtle rock/tango "The Lonely Spider," Lhasa's vocals hint at grief and despair. The song's Latin standup bassline and subtle chiming guitar combine with a muted tango beat to give the song a deeply melancholy air. "Is Anything Wrong" is a bluesy pop song with a haunting melody carried by Lhasa's melisma-drenched vocals. Pedal steel supplies a mournful accent and flamenco ...
| | Bebo & Cigala Lagrimas Negras CD (2004)
Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas CD music
$8.49 Lágrimas Negras (Black Tears) is a collaborative effort between the octogenarian Cuban piano master Bebo Valdés and the reigning Spanish flamenco cantador, Dieguito El Cigala. Recorded for Fernando Trueba and Nat Chediak's Calle 54 label, the sessions took place in Madrid between September and December 2002. Maestro Valdés (born in 1918), the father of the jazz pianist Chucho, has a long history as an innovator in Cuban music. He recorded the first Afro-Cuban jazz session in 1952, and was a tutor to the great bandleader Beny Moré, writing early charts for him. Valdés is also a world-class arranger. Dieguito El Cigala was born in 1960, and has become the undisputed king of Spain's flamenco singers. This recording features nine tracks that meld together cooking son, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, and flamenco rhythms, in tunes by composers such as Lolita de la Colina, Virgilio and Homero Expósito, Ramón Perelló, the grand team of Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, Caetano Veloso (who makes a guest appearance), Maria Teresa Vera, Miguel Matamoros (who composed the title track), and others. ...

Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas album
$14.65 An ambitious world fusion project, SIWAN brings together the Norwegian pianist Jon Balke, Moroccan singer Amina Alaoui, the Early Music ensemble Barokksolistene, minimalist trumpeter Jon Hassell, and others in a cross-cultural melange that imagines itself somewhere back in the medieval times of Andalusia, during the era when Spain was dominated by Muslim rule. With the expert help of Barokksolistene (Baroque solists), Balke has composed authentically evocative, Arabic-flavored settings for medieval Christian and Muslim poetic texts, fluently sung by Alaoui who sometimes resembles a serene flamenco singer or, better, a New Age descendant of the great Egyptian diva Oum Kalsoum. Hassell's horn is given ample solo space along with the Algerian ...

Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas music CDs
$7.35 For the follow-up to her groundbreaking debut album, Vega made a wise move by incorporating her band further into the arrangement process. Thus, instead of delving deeper into her own introspective muse, she reaches outward to pursue a musical vision markedly expanded from the friendly folk-rock of the previous album. The dark, brooding influence of Leonard Cohen is felt more strongly here, as songs like the title track ...

Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas CD music
$6.89 WHAT ABOUT TODAY is a shining souvenir of an era in the U.S. when there was social unrest and young people's voices were heard, a subject Streisand alludes to in her liner notes. Released in July 1969, the album kept Barbra current, while continuing to showcase her incredible talent. The title track questions ...

Un Cuartito Pa Mis Cosas songs
$12.69 Adam Ezra Group – acoustic roots/rock. The dynamic, independent, live band takes a giant step towards the mainstream with their new release, “View from the Rootâ€Â. Grounded in Ezra’s intellectual/pop songwriting, the Group displays an energy and versatility, often compared to Springsteen, Simon, and Matthews. Ezra, an experimentialist as much as a musician or songwriter, has spent time living out of a van, farming in Canada, volunteering for the relief effort in Kosovo, and practicing environmental geography in South Africa. Whether it been as kitchen hand or carpenter, teacher, athlete, or traveler, Ezra crams it all into the music, always challenging our perspective and often teetering somewhere between the ballsy rocker and sensitive poet. The Group’s live performances have made them a staple in Boston and throughout the northeast. The Group shows their versatility by headlining full band rock shows at major Boston ...
