We Can All Be Free album
$10.59 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated ...
| | Throwdown Deathless CD (2009)
We Can All Be Free CD music
$12.99 Throwdown have had to eat a lot of crap in recent years because their vocalist, Dave Peters, is doing such a blatant, idolatrous imitation of Pantera/Down vocalist Phil Anselmo. It doesn't help that with 2005's Vendetta they shifted from the thick-necked, straight-edge hardcore of their early catalog to a version of the "groove metal" practiced by Pantera, Trivium, and other modern metal bands. ...

| | Aretha Franklin 30 Greatest Hits CDs (1985)
We Can All Be Free album
$11.15 The title may not be 100-percent accurate, since the songs here are culled from Franklin's soul years, roughly between 1967 and 1974, and she's had lots more hits since then. That nit picked, however, this is a genuine embarrassment of riches, with Aretha's soaring voice and under-appreciated ...

| | Golden Age Of American Rock 'N Roll CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
We Can All Be Free music CDs
$17.09 Name any big rock & roll novelty hit from the mid-'50s to the mid-'60s, the sillier the better, and the odds are it's on this 30-song compilation. As just a sample of the big hits here, this has the Ran-Dells' "Martian Hop"; Sheb Wooley's "The Purple People Eater"; David Seville's "Witch Doctor"; the Playmates' "Beep Beep"; Barry Mann's "Who Put the Bomp (In the Bomp Bomp Bomp)"; Gene Simmons' "Haunted House"; the Detergents' "Leader of the Pack" satire "Leader of the Laundromat" (probably the funniest thing here); and, closing the disc, Napoleon XIV's legendarily grating "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!" Naturally, some of the big hits included weren't as funny as they were popular, like Larry Verne's "Mr. Custer," Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," Ray Stevens' "Ahab the Arab," and Buzz Clifford's "Baby Sittin' Boogie." Those are necessary to get a full view of the range of early rock & roll novelty hits, though, and as compensation there are quite a few semi-forgotten amusing small novelty hits, like Murry Kellum's "Long Tall Texan" (covered soon afterward by the Beach Boys), Jimmy Cross' ...
| | Carriere Brothers Old Time Louisiana Creole CD (2004)
We Can All Be Free songs
$13.59 Recorded in Louisiana in April 1974, half of these 20 tracks were previously released on LP, although half of them make their first appearance on this CD. Although Linton Broussard plays unobtrusive drums on four numbers, for the most part it's just Bebe Carriere on fiddle and Dolan Carriere on accordion, ...
| | Kicksville Vol. 3 CD (2005)
We Can All Be Free album
$13.29 The noted rockabilly mavens at Norton Records have been attempting to prove that there are still great rockin' sides from the 1950s left to be unearthed with their Kicksville series, and there are 18 good-to-great vintage rockers awaiting inspection on the third edition in the serial. Compiled from studio acetates that were never released back in the day, Kicksville, Vol. 3 includes unissued material from Elvis-esque crooner Ral Donner, rockabilly powerhouse Benny Joy, and Gary Usher, who would later go on to a distinguished career as a producer and songwriter. But most of the artists on this ...
