Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles Though it is one of America's most popular sporting events, the association of NASCAR with uneducated, backwards rednecks seems cemented into the American consciousness. So the brilliant comedy TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, is not just a sidesplitting series of slapstick pratfalls and over-the-top accents, but a lens into an important part of American culture. Comic sensation Will Ferrell (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, ANCHORMAN) plays the title character, Ricky Bobby, a figure who is at once laughably ridiculous, infuriating, and loveable. Ricky Bobby, with his bleached-blond wife, cute sons Walker and Texas Ranger, and dim-bulb sidekick Cal (award-winning actor John C. Reilly, flexing his considerable comedic muscle), has got it made. He is NASCAR's most popular driver, and nearly every aspect of his life is endorsed by a recognizable product. Yet his racetrack kingdom is not unshakeable: two formidable opponents, his unpleasable father, Reese (Gary Cole), and a flashy new opponent, the openly gay French import Jean (played by a hilarious Sasha Baron Cohen, known to millions as Ali G), threaten to hijack his crown and expose his vulnerabilities. Though many of the jokes are easy laughs (having Ferrell run around shirtless is a guaranteed guffaw-fest), the script (co-written by Farrell and Adam McKay) is nuanced and intelligent, lending its characters much more sympathy and complexity than dumber comedies are want to do. And every performer--from Ferrell to Amy Adams (as Susan, Bobby's fawning assistant)--tackles his or her part with joy and relish. A knee-slapper with smarts and savvy, TALLADEGA NIGHTS ensures Ferrell's position as one of comedy's shining talents. Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby Reviews: 5 stars out of 5 -- "A pacy, racy, relentless blitz of big, fat belly laughs..."
-- Andy Lowe, Total Film 4 stars out of 4 -- "TALLADEGA shifts gears dramatically as the zany cast orbiting Ferrell come into their own....[With] some brilliant comedy moments..."-- Uncut Staff, Uncut "[U]ndeniably funny....A film that generates significant mileage out of both celebrating and humbling American hickdom."-- Ali Jaafar, Sight and Sound "TALLADEGA NIGHTS takes some very funny cheap shots...[The races] are scorchingly shot, and they lend the movie a zest that was missing from ANCHORMAN." -- Grade: B
-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "Ricky Bobby is at once a creature of pure, extravagant absurdity and a curiously vulnerable, sympathetic figure."

Fun Stuff You knew it was going to be "IGNORANT" before you watched it, but it's a damn funny movie. They never said it was Gone With The Wind or Braveheart. You remind of the guy who didn't like the Big Lebowski. Submitted by Dan Anderson (Black Mountain, North Carolina) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby video
$13.55 The Force is with us in EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH, the final chapter of the six-part STAR WARS series, which began a long time ago (1977) in a galaxy far, far away... and is now complete in its cyclical perfection. This visually awe-striking kaleidoscope of interplanetary imagination features the unmatched digital animation and special effects of George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic. With pink and orange skies casting a golden sheen over magnificent landscapes through which space ships dart and light sabers flash, the spectacle of the film, while hypnotizing, is but a complement to the intense, crucial plot.
Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) remains the Jedi apprentice of master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Battling dark forces that threaten the Republic, the duo quickly eliminates enemy Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), and Anakin proves--as he states more than once--that his powers have doubled. An intimidating warrior with superior knowledge of the Force, Anakin becomes the pet of Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), who is connected to the dark side. Meanwhile, Padme (Natalie Portman), the senator and former queen who is secretly married to Anakin, is pregnant, and Anakin is tortured by dreams of her dying ...

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby film
$24.15 Prolific director Michael Winterbottom (24-HOUR PARTY PEOPLE) takes an unusual turn by helming A MIGHTY HEART--a studio picture starring none other than Angelina Jolie. Jolie stars as Mariane Pearl, the widow of WALL STREET JOURNAL reporter Daniel Pearl. Daniel was kidnapped and executed in Pakistan in 2002, and Winterbottom's film centers on the frantic activities leading up to his death. Fellow journalist Mariane revs into action as soon as the disappearance of her husband is announced, calling on the FBI and experts in terrorism to help in the desperate search. With the media circling around the story like hawks, Mariane endures a very public display of grief, and her plight is perfectly captured by the unlikely alliance of Winterbottom and Jolie. The film was shot mostly in Karachi and uses locations that Daniel was known to have visited, adding a heady dose of authenticity to the proceedings. Winterbottom uses shaky, hand-held cameras, which add to the feeling of chaos as multiple organizations descend on Pakistan in the quest to find Daniel; fortunately the director uses some much-needed on-screen captions to make sure viewers are up to speed on who everyone is. A MIGHTY HEART is tough, emotional viewing that will be challenging (yet rewarding) for many audiences, even those who are already familiar with this heartbreaking story.
On January 23, 2002, Mariane ...

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby review
$14.99 This incredibly bizarre film by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar follows Yolanda (Cristina Sánchez Pascual), a heroin-dealing nightclub singer who hides out in a convent after a deal goes bad and she becomes wanted by both the law and rival gangs. The mother superior of the convent (Julieta Serrano) is a fan of Yolanda's singing and a lesbian heroin user, so before long she and Yolanda start shooting up together. Another of the nuns (Marisa Paredes) takes LSD and hallucinates encounters with Jesus; another (Chus Lampreave) writes trashy romance novels under a pseudonym. There's ...

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby movie DVD
$9.79 A presidential assassination attempt is told from multiple points of view in Pete Travis's directorial debut, VANTAGE POINT. U.S. president Ashton (William Hurt) is in Salamanca, Spain (though much of the film was actually shot in Mexico), to announce plans for a major global summit on terrorism. But as he stands behind the podium in front of an adoring crowd (with protesters blocked off from the stage), he is shot twice, followed shortly by a small explosion and then a massive blast. Secret Service Agents Barnes (Dennis Quaid), Taylor (Matthew Fox), and Holden (Richard T. Jones) immediately jump into action, trying to find the terrorists responsible amid all the chaos. The thriller first shows the events through the eyes of television news producer Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver), and then the film rewinds, replaying the action from a different point of view. Each perspective reveals a few more clues, then rewinds again, ...
