Photographer: Eduardo Pérez. Arrangers: Sergio George; Ramon B. Sanchez; Alberto Barros. This longtime salsa favorite -- with the help of a little reinvention -- tops the charts once again with his 2006 record, Salsa con Reggaetón. In an effort to synthesize the old and the new, the classic and the fresh, the Univision label employed the talents of top Latin music producers Ramon B. Sanchez and Sergio George, both of whom need only touch a project for it to turn to gold. Montañez, a veteran of the world famous El Gran Combo, a crown in the Puerto Rican salsa crown, collaborated with some of the island's new breed of recording ...
| | Victor Manuelle Decision Unanime CD (2006)
Arroz Con Habichuela
$9.99 Puerto Rican salsa singer Victor Manuelle returns with DECISION UNANIME. The album stays true to the roots of salsa even as it incorporates pop-oriented elements like the synthesizer fanfare that opens "El Perdedor" and the electronic beats that occasionally supplant the conga-led percussion grooves. Aside from that mild production gloss, most of DECISION UNANIME is as exciting and dramatic as the best salsa, especially on live tracks like the celebratory "Puerto Rico 2006." Even the ballads, such as "Nuestro Amor Se Ha Vuelto Ayer," are irresistibly danceable. Puerto Rican salsa god Victor Manuelle takes his audience by surprise with his 2006 release Decisión Unámine. Just when you thought that this guy couldn't get any better, the writing couldn't get catchier, the arrangements funkier, or Manuelle himself sound any stronger, a label change and one salsero's steely determination breaks all expectations. Covering wider musical territory than in past efforts, including rollicking samba breakdown ...

Arroz Con Habichuela
$9.79 Composer: Andres Levin. Released in conjunction with the 2007 film EL CANTANTE, the bio-pic of the legendary salsa singer Hector Lavoe, this soundtrack is a grand and fitting tribute to the "Cantante de los Cantantes" ("singer of singers"). Marc Anthony's rich, expressive, and nuanced voice is up to the task of recreating Lavoe's charismatic performances. He shines on Lavoe's signature tune "El Cantante," the haunting, Santeria-based "Aguanile," the completely infectious "Che Che Cole," and the soundtrack's bouncy single, "Mi Gente." Jennifer Lopez (Marc Anthony's film co-star and real-life wife) sings the sultry, Nelly Furtado-penned "Toma De Mi." Marc Anthony plays the role of Héctor Lavoe in El Cantante, the film he had been wanting and waiting to make for many years. Lavoe is a hero to salsa fans, famed for the artistry of his vocals and the intensity of his rhythm; his records with Willie Colón during the early '70s were high points for salsa, and they paved the way for many vocalists to come (including one Marc Anthony). Anthony's physical resemblance to Lavoe is only passing, but no other musician alive could have done as much with this soundtrack tribute to Lavoe. Enlisting a variety of famed salsa musicians (including Yomo Toro, Marc Quiñones, Bobby Allende, Milton Cardona, José Mangual, and Tito Allen), Anthony and producer Sergio George reprise nine of Héctor Lavoe's best moments on wax, including ...
