The album opens with "Quicksand" and sets a crouching-to-pounce tone, only to launch into the bombastic riffing of "A Kiss To Send Us Off." Leadoff single "Anna Molly" drives with tension and urgency, while the group channels Prince on "Diamonds And Coal." LIGHT GRENADES offers up a fair number of ballads, standouts being "Love Hurts" and "Dig." In the interests of dramatic extremes, the fiercely punky title track works climactically, while the two parts of "Earth To Bella" act as a midpoint and denouement for a solid effort.
A long-awaited break from an aggressive touring cycle afforded Incubus the freedom to hone a set of material that fully realized the band's ever-developing musical vision. Light years from the novelty turntable scratching and rap-rock angst that marked their earlier works, LIGHT GRENADES is an arty and diverse affair. The bass-heavy prog leanings of 2004's A CROW LEFT OF THE MURDER are replaced by a much more meat-and-potatoes rock approach that has become quintessential Incubus.
Incubus: Brandon Boyd (vocals); Mike Einziger (guitar, piano); Chris Kilmore (piano, organ, Mellotron, sampler, turntables); Ben Kenney (electric bass); Jose Antonio Pasillas II (drums).
Rolling Stone (p.124) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The title track bursts from the gates at breakneck speed, turning Incubus into a less-psychotic version of Butthole Surfers..." Entertainment Weekly (p.82) - "Equally adept at rave-ups and ballads, Incubus even makes their unexpected forays into space-rock work." -- Grade: B+ Q (p.145) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is an admirably muscular and direct effort from a band 15 years into their career but showing no signs of fatigue." Incubus Light Grenades Songs Light Grenades Music Review Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Why all the low ratings????? I thought this album was phenomenal from front to back!! This is a classic incubus album peeps!!!! I think it also contains some of the best songs they have ever produced. I love the flow of this album some songs are slow and then the next song bamm!!! It just picks right on up. I like this one better then the previous album. I like the more mellow style they got going this time around. Incubus hasn't put out a bad record yet. I hope works to come will be just as consistent!!! Submitted by Westonnixon89 (Altoona Iowa usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
W-O-W! In another review, I said that Stone Sour's "Come What(ever) May" was one of the best of 2006. Well, this IS the best! Incubus is a great group, and I hope they make more hits like "Anna Molly" and more songs to go under the radar like "Light Grenades" (the track). Quicksand, A Kiss to Send us Off, Dig, Light Grenades, and both Earth to Bellas are great songs. I'd recommend this band to fans of Stone Sour, Hinder, Green Day, and My Chemical Romance. Not my favorite group, but I LOVE Dig I listened to the whole album and even though I don't care for most of the songs, I REALLY like the song Dig. Submitted by Rod (Albuquerque, NM, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another great album by my fav band Adam is jealous he can't sing as well as Brandon. Best album of 2006 by far.
4 starts because of the songs light grenades and earth to bell a which could have used a bit more thought and ruin the flow of the album. Best tracks: Oil and water, diamonds and coal and paper shoes.

Not bad There are a few on this one that I skip over. Diamonds and Coal is great (good call saying they "channel Prince" - that is exactly what I thought too) and the three tracks after that make it worth buying. Submitted by Clarke (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Light Grenades CD music
$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they perform surgery and pass the time just miles from the front lines of the Korean conflict. Led by sardonic captains "Hawkeye" Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and "Trapper" John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), the film has the feel ...
| | Hinder Extreme Behavior CD (2005)
Light Grenades music CDs
$10.39 It's unclear precisely which definition of their name Hinder prefer: "to impede progress" or "the outdated midwestern slang term for the buttocks." Both fit, because Hinder is an unapologetic throwback to the post-Guns 'n' Roses era of hard rock, when dudes like Poison and Motley Crue ditched their glam look in favor of a grungier "street" vibe and a tougher-edged ...

| | White Stripes Icky Thump CD (2007)
Light Grenades album
$14.29 There's an overwhelming sense of urgency and catharsis on most tracks, as on the title cut, where Jack's Robert Plant-ish wail falls into a near-rap full of breathless cadences. That dirty, primal groove evoked by said title is the organizing principle of the album, sweaty blues-rock writ large and gritty. Even though there are a couple of brief stylistic diversions when the Whites veer into folkier territory, there's no mistaking ICKY THUMP's status as a thick slab of heavy rock capable of handily crushing lesser sonic statements.
Following the arty explorations ...
| | Puddle Of Mudd Famous CD (2007)
Light Grenades CD music
$10.39 Puddle Of Mudd underwent a serious personnel overhaul following 2003's LIFE ON DISPLAY. Drummer Greg Upchurch jumped ship to join 3 Doors Down while guitarist Paul Phillips chose to follow his muse with new-to-the-scenesters Operator. POM founder Wes Scantlin (vocals, guitar) and longtime bassist Doug Ardito keep the Mudd sound intact here, though, moving a bit from the early nu-metal stylings to a more natural comfort zone of raunchy post-alt rock. The solid collection of songs on FAMOUS flaunts track after track of made-for-radio anthems, with Scantlin channeling Kurt Cobain's sneer as it communes with Layne Staley's predilection for sinister-sounding vocal harmonies.

| | Hypocrisy Obsculum Obscenum CD (1993)
Light Grenades album
$9.95 This sophomore effort followed Hypocrisy's strong debut, Penetralia, and featured even more brutal death metal from one of Sweden's finest practitioners of the genre. Obsculum Obscenum reveals a focused band building momentum while attempting to define a genre (or movement, really) that would dominate European metal for a decade. Hypocrisy simply shreds on this 1993 Nuclear Blast recording, especially during highlights like "Exclamation of a Necrofag" and "Attachment to the Ancestor." Obsculum Obscenum ...

| | Hurt Process Heartbeat Behind CD (2005)
Light Grenades music CDs
$9.79 What makes the Hurt Process relatively unique isn't the fact that they combine emo and hardcore into a crunchy, chewy, slightly sweet confection that's sure to set the kids moshing in every pit from Atlanta to Seattle. What makes them relatively unique is that they're from the U.K., where the punk idea is usually expressed quite differently. The Hurt Process' airtight twin-guitar attack and the bludgeoning solidity of their rhythm section, combined with vocals that alternate between crystal-clear harmonies and a beast-from-the-pit roar, sound an awful lot like heartland screamo -- except for the fact that heartland screamo bands often affect fake British accents, and you'd never guess that the Hurt Process were Brits unless you listened very, very carefully. The songs on this, their second full-length album, are all quite good, but ...
