| | Rafa El Tachuela Flamenco Romantico CD Rafa El Tachuela Discography of CDs
You might think of flamenco as being bustling fingers on a guitar, and musicians and singers in search of those moments of duende, or transcendence. But, as German-born Rafa El Tachuela proves admirably here, flamenco can work just as well when it's more subdued and introspective. El Tachuela's a superb musician with an excellent ear and he's finely attuned to the possibilities, not only of different flamenco styles, but of the guitar itself. He's not afraid to play with form, as he does with "Energia Pura," where he mixes in Arab melodies that work quite gracefully, or "En la Noche," where the power of the music is in its restraint. About the only thing that seems even slightly out of place here is the brief percussion solo, "Paseo en la Selva Verde," where the forest sounds seem to take the album to another, slightly false, dimension. But that's a brief exception to a rule of powerful, gorgeous played music that seems to emanate directly from the soul. More than that, El Tachuela's a man who understands and lives flamenco. Flamenco Romantico leans far closer to the nuevo rather than the traditional end of the genre, but loses none of its muscle for that. Is it romantic? Yes. But it's more than that; it's a wonderfully satisfying record. ~ Chris Nickson

| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Flamenco Romantico CD music
$13.49 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and ...

Flamenco Romantico CD music
$13.59 Originally released on Swallow (6011) in 1965 and Swallow (6019) in 1974. Includes French and English translations.
If you want to go straight to the source and hear real Cajun music without any hint of crossover, look to the Balfa Brothers. Though they were a popular live attraction as early as 1948, Dewey, Will, Burke, Harry, and Rodney (with assistance from family friend Hadley Fontenot on accordion) didn't record their first LP until 1965. Their second followed a full nine years later. Both are included on this seminal Cajun disc, and the purity of the group's performances is stunning.
Theirs is an entirely acoustic sound, based on the jangling rhythm of the guitar, the sprightly tinkling ...

Flamenco Romantico album
$12.59 Mohamed Naiem, a mainstay of the Egyptian nightclub virtuoso scene, is likely best-known internationally for his work behind Hossam Ramzy on a number of albums. Here, he's accompanied by Ramzy on percussion, but he gets the chance to shine at the forefront on both the nay and the kawala. While the compositions are largely written by Naiem and Ramzy together, the tone is distinctly different from the majority of Ramzy's work. There is no driving percussion, no synths or string arrangements ...

Flamenco Romantico music CDs
$11.69 Nearly 20 years on from the infamous 'Disco Demolition Night' at Chicago's Comiskey Park--a rally that forever etched the phrase "disco sucks" into the American consciousness--an unexpected alliance has been struck between the indie-pop world and the more synthetic, mechanized strains of dance music. Leading firebrands in this renaissance, the New York production duo DFA, have teamed up with U.K. ensemble Hot Chip for their latest effort, WARNING.
Hot Chip vocalist Joe Goddard's disaffected monotone provides a cool contrast to Alexis Taylor's lilting falsetto, a ...
