$18.19 | | Grachan Moncur III Exploration CD (2004)
Scriabin: Piano Music
$12.89 Trombonist Grachan Moncur III, who was a member of the Jazztet in the early 1960s, gained his greatest fame for his two Blue Note albums (Evolution and Some Other Stuff) which were quite adventurous. He also worked with Archie Shepp, became involved in free jazz and spent much of the 1970s and '80s as a music educator. Dental problems resulted in Moncur only playing once in a great while in the 1990s. He had been in obscurity for quite awhile when he was contacted by arranger Mark Masters for the Exploration project. Fortunately Moncur's playing proved to still be in his prime. Masters wrote sympathetic charts for many of the trombonist's finest pieces, utilizing an all-star nonet that could really dig into the inside/outside music. "Excursion," ...

Scriabin: Piano Music
$18.99 "With their debut album "UPON A WINTERS EVE", The Black House Ceilidh performs yuletide carols in the traditional style, taking the listener to a time long past when the music was only heard live. Their music can be described as organic, melodic, and traditional. Caleb Gilbert on vocals and highland bagpipes; Judy Plester on violin, norwegian hardinger, andhurdy gurdy; Kevin Tyler on guitar and vocals; Michael Manderen on lute and viol de gamba; and Ernesto Villarreal on vihuela."Review by Carol Swanson of ChristmasReviews.com (2006)"Upon a Winter's Eve is the debut release of The Black House Ceilidh, a Detroit area group that presents 19 tracks of traditional holiday music in an early music/Celtic style. The feel is rustic and raw; you get the distinct impression that this is a minstrel show in your living room. The artists themselves describe the sound as simple and organic, and that description hits the mark. The Black House Ceilidh combines an eclectic array of instrumentals and vocals, and the straightforward presentation is executed ...
