I find it impossible to suppress an association with Paul Robeson.” Counter PunchBio Hailed by many as the new Paul Robeson, internationally acclaimed baritone Anthony Brown is a promoter of peace and good will around the world and across the United States. In 2002 he was the invited guest of the U.S. State Department to Bosnia as a good will ambassador in that multi ethnic war torn country. There he used the Spirituals as a tool to assist in the process of healing and reconciliation. In the fall of 2003 he was invited to tour Northern Ireland to bring the Spirituals to the Protestant and Catholic conflict. In 2005 Mr. Brown toured for one month in the People’s Republic of China. While in Asia he also made a stop in Japan where he performed and lectured. In October of 2005 he was the invited guest of the Community Relations Council of Northern Ireland where he used music as a tool to promote peace and reconciliation. While there he sang and spoke in the parliament building to community leaders and government officials. He has recently returned from Eastern Europe where he performed in Moldova, the Ukraine and Russia under the sponsorship of Crosslinks. In June of 2006 he visited the war torn areas of Northern Uganda where He used music as a tool to promote peace in the region.In September of 2006 he traveled to South Korea where he sang and spoke for peace.He has recorded four CDs. The first one is entitled “Spirituals” with cover art by the renown African American artist Jacob Lawrence. His second recording entitled “Embracing American Song” is a collection of folk songs, sacred songs and popular songs of the 19th century. His third recording, in collaboration with the Spirituals Project Choir of Denver, is entitled “Toil and triumph.” His new CD, “ Each Other’s Light,” Songs of Peace Hope and Justice was released in December of 06.
