| | Rick Wakeman Aspirant Sunrise CD Rick Wakeman Discography of CDs
This album is part of Wakeman's "Suntrilogy" of new age keyboard relaxation music. All of the pieces are slow, gentle, melodic, and peaceful. There isn't any of Wakeman's characteristic complexity or virtuosity here, but the albums fulfill their stated purpose. (Wakeman donated part of the proceeds from these three albums to the Council for the Protection of Rural England.) ~ Stephen Raiteri
While some of Rick Wakeman's travels into new age music have relinquished some spiritedness, the same cannot be said for Aspirant Sunrise, a somewhat clichéd and inactive expedition into the realm of relaxation. Used as a means to bring musical enlightenment to a world filled with tension, Wakeman's delicate keyboard playing trails off into mundane electronic runs, short of his usual instrumental adeptness. Even though his attempts at conjuring up tranquilizing motifs are apparent, they tend to imitate other run-of-the-mill new age albums and are void of his trademarked keyboard style. Tracks such as "Dewy Morn" and "When Time Stood Still" offer up the best hint of his artistry, teased with some interesting synthesizer meanderings. The rest of the songs are bright in nature, but would have been bettered by some escalating rhythms or slight time changes within the realm of Wakeman's conceptual intentions. Aspirant Sunrise is the first in a two-part set (the other being Aspirant Sunshadows) meant to be played at the end of a stress-filled day. ~ Mike DeGagne
Aspirant Sunrise is the first in a trilogy of albums recorded in 1991, the others being Aspirant Sunset and Aspirant Sunshadows. The style is very much New Age which was a popular style at the start of the nineties and the music was written with relaxation in mind. The final results being so relaxing that the engineer fell asleep during the recording of these albums. Unavailable for some time these re issues have been re mastered for release and will be anticipated by the large Rick Wakeman fan base. | | Kate Bush Red Shoes (Japan LP Sleeve) CD (1993) (Import) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Aspirant Sunrise CD music
$40.45 Kate Bush was never the most prolific of artists; this 1993 album and its attendant singles formed her complete '90s output. Her recordings are carefully conceived, densely orchestrated, and finely tuned, and THE RED SHOES is no exception. Though spontaneity may not be her strong suit, her records are never dull or self-indulgent.
Among Kate Bush's most relaxed recordings, THE RED SHOES features a number of guest appearances, notably Eric Clapton, Nigel Kennedy, and Jeff Beck. Highlights include the appropriately bouncy "Rubberband Girl," the double entendre-laden "Eat the Music," complete with a great horn section, and "Big ...

Aspirant Sunrise music CDs
$40.45 THE SENSUAL WORLD will appeal to those who like their pop seasoned with some world music. During the '80s, some of Kate Bush's most successful collaborations were those with Peter Gabriel ("Games Without Frontiers," "Don't Give Up"), and Gabriel's habit of appropriating world music must have certainly rubbed off. THE SENSUAL WORLD combines the best of Kate Bush's jazzier elements with contributions by some of the most accomplished musicians in the world. Featured artists include violinist Nigel Kennedy, Davey Spillane, Trio Bulgarka, Eberhard Weber, and her brother, multi-instrumentalist Paddy Bush.
THE SENSUAL WORLD covers familiar Kate Bush territory--love, growing up, and ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra A New World Record - Expanded Edition CD (1976) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Aspirant Sunrise songs
$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with FACE THE MUSIC and DISCOVERY.
1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better ...

Master Sound releases are 24-karat gold CDs remastered from first-generation masters. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's revolutionary "Super Bit Mapping" system.
ELO was big enough by 1974 that some people actually suggested that ELDORADO featured Satanic backward-masking. Of course, the idea was ludicrous; but the band playfully responded by adding a backward message to "Fire on High," the opening instrumental on 1975's FACE THE MUSIC.
Besides "Fire on High," which was used as background music ...

| | Yazbek Damascus CD (2001)
Aspirant Sunrise songs
$14.49 Clearly David Yazbek is a showman, a theater man. His claim to fame is writing the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical The Full Monty. Prior, he wrote comedy for The David Letterman Show. He also has a couple of previous albums to his name. So it should come as no surprise that his album Damascus, well, plays like a musical soundtrack, sans actors' dialogue. The set's opener, "Montgomery, Alabama," fools listeners into thinking, Finally! Some good old-fashioned rock & roll. The song screams with a rollicking piano, horn solos, and a raspy lead vocal by Yazbek. Then "Strange Warm Day" chimes in; it's reminiscent of the Beach Boys' sublime Pet Sounds. On it, Yazbek's voice sounds like a hybrid of Elvis Costello and Brian Wilson. But these two songs are the first and last sign of non-theatrical fare audiences can expect on this disc, where he becomes an amalgam of John Pizzarelli meets Randy Newman. No doubt, Yazbek's voice is lovely. It is warm, mellow, and textured. And his lyrics are witty, satirical, off the beaten path, and detailed; they clearly demonstrate his writing prowess. (Case in point: "Sandy Koufax" -- "Is it hard to relate when you masturbate?/Is it difficult to feel the thunder?"). This isn't everyday songwriting, nor are these everyday song arrangements. Yazbek, honestly, is truly talented. But he shouldn't be doing straight music albums; they reek of show tunes, ...
| | Dub Narcotic Sound System Degenerate Introduction CD (2004)
Aspirant Sunrise album
$12.49 Degenerate Introduction, Dub Narcotic Sound System's first full-length album in about five years, was more cool, unclassifiable fusion of funk, dub, indie rock, and hip-hop, with a more spontaneous vibe than most such records that try to cross-blend these kind of styles. Although Calvin Johnson's bullfrog growl isn't the conventional delivery of vocalists ...
