A commonly heard complaint from nu-metal's early detractors was that the genre had a distinct lack of catchy tunes. As irrelevant as this view may seem, considering that bone- crushingly heavy riffs, not sing-along ditties, have always been at the core of metal's popularity, even devoted Korn and Mudvayne fans have been known to lament the sameness of many nu-metal bands' sound. Enter FROM ONE, the debut album from Ra. Seemingly borrowing as much from the Beatles as from Black Sabbath, lead singer and main songwriter Sahaj Ticotin possesses a sense of melody and songcraft so highly developed that it would likely please fans of alternative pop bands like Matchbox 20. In this respect, the quartet often sounds like a much heavier, less progressive version of King's X or Faith No More. Considering that Ra isn't afraid to make liberal use of clean guitar sounds and multi-layered vocal harmonies, some may deny that the group plays metal at all. Even a cursory listen to FROM ONE, however, reveals that the band's super-tight start-stop rhythms and de-tuned guitars are cut from the same Metallica-influenced cloth as their contemporaries' cookie monster-vocal filled sonic onslaughts.

His own, newer material allows him to stretch and play, while the heavily-grooved, slowed-down remake of his classic "Layla" is the essential standout. "Tears In Heaven," a moving tribute to his son's passing, is emotionally raw, yet stylistically smooth--a difficult task to achieve.

We often refer to Crimson Epiphany as a summer band. Its funny that we call it that as we all come from tropical Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where every day IS summer. Nonetheless, somehow, the label seems apt.So the story goes that in the 'summer' of '06 Adrian had called Jeremy and I out for a jam session in Akarkarya Studios. Jeremy, had spent the last year or so in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA where he was studying in Calvin College. We used to play regularly in church before Jeremy left and we thought it would be nice to play together again.The jam session was magical. As we left the studio, we knew that we wanted to do it again. There was an amazing chemistry in the band. Crimson Epiphany had been born.The result of that summer was Crimson Epiphany: Awaken the Dawn EP. We put together the EP in 24 hours because Jeremy had to leave to go back to the USA. That EP brought about the No.1 single, "Bleed the Same." And while we we knew that there was still much room to grow, we knew that we wanted to put together an album the following year.In the summer of '07 we hit the studios again, this time with a greater focus on improving the overall quality of the album. Ken joined the band at this time and proved to be the missing link in the band.Our debut album called "Crimson Epiphany" hit stores in Malaysia in August 2008 and our first single "Reason or Rhyme" reached No. 1 on Hitz.FM's Malaysian English Top 10 on 12th October 2008.Crimson ...
