Iron Maiden-Document DVD
$9.49 ROCKY BALBOA, the sixth installment of the long-running film franchise, should amount to nothing more than a lame punch line to a TONIGHT SHOW monologue joke. However, just as his longtime corner man Paulie describes the Italian Stallion himself, this movie is all heart. Thirty years after Sylvester Stallone first introduced the underdog backroom brawler from Philadelphia in the Oscar-winning ROCKY, Rocky Balboa returns for one last dance. Speculation as to whether Balboa, in his prime, would have been able to defeat lackluster champ Mason "The Line" Dixon spurs Dixon's management to set up an exhibition fight between the two. That Balboa is in his 50s in the film and wouldn't be sanctioned to fight anyone, let alone a man 30 years his junior and in the prime of life, must be left up to the viewer's ability to suspend disbelief. To its credit, however, the movie addresses at every turn the insanity of a man approaching 60 getting back into a boxing ring, and Balboa's impassioned explanation of his motivations is just believable enough to give all other improbabilities a free pass.
Though it may sound like faint praise, this is the best ROCKY movie since the original. It's very much a love letter to Philadelphia, and Stallone, who ...

| | Curl Up And Die Unfortunatley We're Not Robots CD (2002)
Iron Maiden-Document video
$11.25 Curl Up & Die's full-length debut is an album that is excessively savage and thoroughly insane, yet for these reasons it surely will be heralded as a visionary masterpiece of technical brutality. Unfortunately, We're Not Robots is an apt title, as Curl Up & Die goes above and beyond with staggering time changes and extraordinary breakdowns that leave the listener speechless and slightly exhausted. Machines could not possibly devise such devastating musical menace. Reversely, the double-bass thrash seems almost impossible to be remotely capable of one human, as is quite apparent on "Ted Nugent Goes AOL." Curl Up & Die's relentless assault on one's ears is less effective on their shorter songs, yet when given time to expand their ideas, the end result is unforgiving, such as the album's two best songs, "You'd Be Cuter if I Shot You in the Face" and "Rich Hall (Runner Up in a Carson Daly Lookalike Contest)." After listening to these songs, one can accurately consider Unfortunately, We're Not Robots to be the first tangible ball of chaos ever created. ...

$13.69 Johnny Duke and the Aces is a young, high-energy blues band inspired by Texas and Delta blues, Jazz, and Rock styles. They play both originals and covers, with covers varying from Robert Johnson to Jimi Hendrix. "Johnny Duke" Lippincott is an inspiration to guitarists all around the Delaware area. Having Mississippi roots, the Delta-blues style of music is frequently evident in his guitar playing. David Bromberg, Johnny's mentor, said in the international magazine Dirty Linen, "If you stick around tonight, there's a 16-year old guitar player who is as good a blues guitar player as any I've ever played with, and I've played with some really good guitar players. That's John Lippincott... He's a killer!" Just recently, Bromberg said in an article of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Johnny is "the best electric blues player in town". With Johnny Duke and the Aces, John continues to impress people with his showmanship, his talent for songwriting, and his guitar skills that are graceful, moving, ...
