Dub Specimen Vol. 1 album
$8.49 In addition to energized versions of such treasured Christmas songs as "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Silent Night," Franklin & the Family contribute several non-traditional songs that explore the depth of God's love and the Christian basis for the holiday. "Now Behold the Lamb," for example, is a ballad that testifies to the truth of salvation, and features stirring ensemble singing, strong solo vocalists, and plenty of enthusiastic exclamations. The deeply funky "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season" kicks things up a notch with its bumping rhythm and infectious chorus. With its mix of old and new musical styles and its impassioned performances, CHRISTMAS is sure to please those ...
| | The Ultimate Bee Gees CDs (2009)
Dub Specimen Vol. 1 CD music
$19.19 Functioning as something of a replacement for the 2001 collection Their Greatest Hits: The Record, The Ultimate Bee Gees covers much of the same ground as that double-disc set, albeit in not quite so linear a fashion. The Record marched through its 40 tracks chronologically, opening with the stately baroque Beatlesque pop ...

Dub Specimen Vol. 1 songs
$13.39 Johnny Griffin & Steve Grossman Quintet is a co-led, jamming collection of nine songs that projects the legendary hard bop style of tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin and the ability of Steve Grossman to fuse his brand of tenor and soprano saxophone excellence, forming a cohesive, impressive set. While each player has developed a reputation for his "blowing sessions," this self-titled CD retains its complementary nature in much the same manner as those ...

Dub Specimen Vol. 1 songs
$27.59 There was a time, back in the 1970s, when Richard Digance aspired to be a moderately serious singer/songwriter, rather than the entertainer he very successfully morphed into by the '80s. These tracks, taken from the albums he released on the Transatlantic label, showcase a man just hitting the cusp between one career and another. ...
| | Preservation Hall Jazz Band Made In New Orleans CDs (2008) Box Set
Dub Specimen Vol. 1 album
$55.89 When it comes to keeping the flame of traditional New Orleans jazz, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is a city (and state) institution. Founded in the 1960s, the PHJB is a flexible combination of surviving old-time practitioners and younger players faithful to the sounds of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, and the other lesser-known giants of N'awlins jazz. MADE IN NEW ORLEANS is a limited edition, decades-spanning box set including a CD, DVD, seven-inch vinyl record, and photographs. The highlights range from the Creole tune "Eh Lah Bah," sung by local trad jazz legends Billie and De De Pierce, to a jolly cover of the 1971 Kinks song "Complicated Life" to the excellent concert footage on the DVD. MADE is a virtual treasure trove for serious devotees of both the PHJB and New Orleans culture.
One of the last living links to the original New Orleans jazz sound, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is an institution both in New Orleans and throughout America. They perform in the classic Orleans collective improvisation style, which highlights a lively, interactive band sound over individual soloing. The two-disc HURRICANE presents the band performing, in ragged-but-right fashion, such chestnuts as "Sugar Blues" and "Blow Wind Blow." The second disc contains archival footage from 1960s American and German television.
In January 2006 Benjamin Jaffe drove to what was left of Seasaint Recording Studios in New Orleans to see what damage the flood waters that followed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina some four months earlier had wrought on the facility, hoping more than anything to salvage whatever master tapes he could. Amazingly, although most of the studio's tape vault was destroyed, he found the masters for the sessions his father, Allan Jaffe, had produced in the 1970s with the classic lineup of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band still intact a mere inches above the waterline. Refurbished, those tapes form the emotional core of this remarkable box set, which bridges the past with the present and essentially tells the story of the Preservation band, whose current members, although they ended up scattered across the country from Orlando to Los Angeles, all survived the hurricane and its aftermath. Don't expect the ensemble work Preservation is famous for, though. Jaffe has assembled a different kind of history here, combining 1959 vocal performances by Sister Gertrude Morgan, unreleased gems ...
