The British CCM singer-songwriter Matt Redman's first album since 2004's successful FACEDOWN plays to his strengths as a performer of uplifting, communal praise songs. The focus of BEAUTIFUL NEWS is on the constant presence of God through times of tribulation, as demonstrated in the heartfelt "You Never Let Go," and the full-throated, meditative "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made." Redman also partners with Delirious? singer Martin Smith on "Take It to the Streets" and "All Over the World," and Smith's presence may be responsible for the edgier, more rock-oriented feel of much of this inspiring set.

With the release of their fourth studio opus, entitled Alien Youth, the band Skillet establishes themselves as true pioneers in progressive Christian music. While prior releases seemed to feel their way through the dark, Alien Youth finds the light switch. The title cut kicks off the disc with splendor, as heavy, distorted guitars drive the tune into an alternative peak. "Vapor" offers much the same heaviness, as Jon Cooper sings through a wall of guitars at the chorus.
