| | Katatonia Night Is The New Day CD (2009)
30 No 1 Party Hits music CDs
$14.29 The latest album from Swedish doom rockers Katatonia, their first studio effort since 2006, is as moody and beautiful as their other latter-day work. The group's career can be marked in two stages based on the condition of singer Jonas Renske's vocal cords -- basically, after the band's first two albums, he developed health problems that prevented him from performing harsh ...

30 No 1 Party Hits album
$15.29 Recorded between 1974 & 1997. Includes liner notes by Jim Jenkins, Jacky Smith, Andy Davis, Phil Symes.
With Queen officially enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Hollywood Records reintroduces the band yet again with the release of GREATEST HITS I, II & III. While Volumes I and II are full of Queen classics you already know by heart, the third cobbles together odds and sods from the far corners of Queen's canon along with solo cuts from Freddie Mercury and Brian May.
Opening with the operatic rock classic "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's easy to hear not only how this British quartet ...

| | Exhaust CD (2000)
30 No 1 Party Hits songs
$14.69 The self-titled Constellation Records debut by Exhaust embodies the sound of squatting in an anarcho-socialist warehouse commune in Montreal's arty/industrial Mile-End district surrounded by French-speaking philosopher/musicians with revolution on their minds and time on their hands. Exhaust are comprised of drummer Aidan Girt (aka 1-Speed Bike and later of Godspeed You Black Emperor!), Gordon Krieger on bass guitar and bass clarinet, and Mike Zabitsky on reel-to-reel tape "distortions." Constellation calls it "a bipolar thrillride from one of the bands that made us want to start a record label." Much of their live-to-four-track recordings have been electronically manipulated during mixdown to evoke an aura of experimental dub and an attendant cinematic mystery that conjures the urban setting of their creations. The drumming is minimalist and crudely recorded, as if from a single microphone set up in a storm drain, yet front and center, directing each piece, while menacing tape loops of agitprop speeches, street conversations, film dialog, and eerie wails permeate the mix, and all of this is anchored by depth-charge bass drones and the moaning of the clarinet. Song titles are as evocative as the music itself: "A History of Guerrilla Warfare," "Two Years on Welfare," "A Medley ...
| | Sonic Youth Invito Al Cielo CD (1998)
30 No 1 Party Hits album
$7.69 For the third of Sonic Youth's sound experiment series, they teamed up with legendary nosie-nik Jim O'Rourke. Building on the ideas from the brilliant extended version of "The Diamond Sea" (from WASHING MACHINE); the series explores the (mostly) instrumental side of the band. Though sold as an EP, the three tracks on the CD version of INVITIOàclock in at just over 56 minutes, and can sit quite comfortably with any of SY's ...

| | Beatles Magical Mystery Tour CD (1967) (Import) Japan; Reissue
30 No 1 Party Hits music CDs
$40.19 The first six songs on MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR were the soundtrack to the Beatles' TV movie of the same name. The film was an experimental mess, but the experimental pop of the album included some of their most memorable productions. The soundtrack side was dominated by Paul McCartney pop tunes, including the bittersweet piano ballad "Fool On The Hill" and "Your Mother Should Know," an impossibly catchy bit of Vaudevillian pop. But it also featured George Harrison's mystical "Blue Jay Way" ...
