$10.89 K.D. Lang & The Reclines: K.D. Lang (vocals); Ben Mink (guitar, electric mandolin, violin, background vocals); Gordie Matthews (guitar, background vocals); Ted Borowiecki (accordion, keyboards, background vocals); Dennis Marcenko (bass, background vocals); Miche Pouliot (drums, background vocals). Additional personnel: Dave Edmunds (acoustic guitar, background vocals); B.J. Cole (steel guitar); Keith Nelson (banjo); Roy Dodds (drums). Recorded at Maison Rouge, London, England from May 26 to June 27, 1986. k.d. lang's first major-label album (and debut American release) was a bit of a switch from the polished retro-country of her best-known work; with Dave Edmunds in the producer's chair, Angel with a Lariat often sounds more like rockabilly or roots rock than classic C&W, with a big, snappy drum sound, plenty of guitars mixed upfront, and lots of slapback of lang's vocals (a production decision lang mentioned with little enthusiasm several years after the album came out). "Turn Me Around" and "High Time for a Detour" rock significantly harder than most of lang's body of work, and "Watch Your Step Polka," "Diet of Strange Places," and "Tune Into My Wave" find lang and her band (who are in fine form throughout) indulging her sly sense of humor, which tended to get lost in the shuffle on later albums such as Ingénue. While the production and arrangements tend not to focus on the subtleties of lang's voice (with the exception of the weepy ...

$11.15 The Crook Family were formed in Pembrokeshire, West Wales in 2006 by Tim Williams (Vocals, Guitar) and Jon Sharpe (Vocals, Guitar and Double Bass). Later that year, Sarah Richards (Vocals, Piano), Tim’s long lost cousin, joined to complete the line up.The Family was born. After a year finding their musical feet and writing songs, the band got down to recording their self produced debut, ‘The Crook Family Album’ (featuring guitarist Kevin Teel). Predominantly slow, acoustic and brooding, the record was underpinned with a dark lyrical edge and natural vocal chemistry which caught the imagination of a widening audience.‘Fiver Sale and Vampires - two fully formed classics dropped from heaven.’ Alan Thompson, The Evening Show BBC Radio Wales. Their version of the Dylan Thomas anthem ‘Eli Jenkins Prayer’ reached cult status, becoming the soundtrack to the new production of ‘Under Milkwood’ in New York last year.‘This is the most requested album on my Radio show and you only have to listen to know why, live they are sensational too - I heard them supporting Jethro Tull at St. Davids Hall, Cardiff and they were joined on stage by Ian Anderson himself….they sold out of CDs in the interval, they were that good.’ BB Skone. Radio Pembrokeshire .‘I bought this after becoming their friend on myspace. It is rare that I buy a CD on this basis but this one was different. ...
