Mr. Eliminator album
$14.39 Generally overlooked in the ex-Beatle's solo discography, 1982's GONE TROPPO finds George Harrison flirting with radio-friendly, synth-driven pop hooks of the early-1980s, while still demonstrating his penchant for great, timeless melodies. The opener, "Wake Up My Love," establishes the light, breezy tone of the album, which continues through the Caribbean-via-Fab Four vibe of the title track. The languid love song "Unknown Delight" and the goofy doo-wop of "I Really Love You," which recalls Beatles novelty numbers such as "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)," vary the record's feel and pace. The 2004 reissue includes an acoustic demo version of the song "Mystical One," which is arguably--given its intimacy and stripped-down production--the album's strongest track.
Although George Harrison's solo career had faded from its early promise, through 1981 he could be counted on to turn in a gold-selling Top 20 album containing a Top 20 single every year or so. Then came the disastrous Gone Troppo, a half-baked affair led by the minor single "Wake Up My Love" that failed to make the Top 100 LPs. Clearly, Harrison could no longer treat his musical career as a part-time stepchild to his interests in car racing and movie producing if he wanted ...
| | Dale, Dick & His Del-Tones Surfers' Choice CD (1962)
Mr. Eliminator CD music
$14.49 Very few early rock & roll albums were true groundbreakers, but this is one: not only did it single-handedly establish the surf music genre (and Dick Dale's hegemony over it), but also sold the entire concept to mass America, where surfing in landlocked regions was only a state of mind. Largely recorded at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa Beach -- Dale's ruling home turf, where one can clearly hear the kids screaming in anticipation at the start ...
| | Ringo Starr Live At Soundstage CD (2007)
Mr. Eliminator music CDs
$14.15 Koch's 2007 release Live at Soundstage is a CD release of a show originally performed at Waukegan, IL's Genessee Theater in August 2005 and first broadcast that year as part of PBS' Soundstage program. It's not quite a complete representation of the concert -- it's a tight 14 tracks, trimmed of the songs Colin Hay sang with Ringo Starr's Roundheads band, so it just features the songs where Starr sang lead, a minor compromise that will likely only bother completists. It could be argued that completists may be the only audience interested in a latter-day live album from Starr, not because that's the only audience he attracts these days, but because there are so many live albums in his discography at this point -- a whopping six albums have been released since 1990, roughly one after the completion of every All-Starr Band tour -- that only those who listen to each and every one could bother finding the differences between them, as Starr rarely deviates from arrangements or set lists. Cynics may raise these concerns as they question the need for another live album, but Live at Soundstage ...

| | Mighty Flashlight CD (2002)
Mr. Eliminator album
$12.39 Recorded completely on his home computer, the ten-track debut from Mike Fellows' Miighty Flashlight is an acoustic-themed exodus that includes blipping beats, spacey noises, and the former Rites of Spring bassist doing his best Will Oldham impression. It's actually quite reminiscent of Beck's One Foot in the Grave era, but it's less showy of its obvious country roots while at the same time making clear Fellow's long association with artists on the Drag City label. The self-titled disc is a stripped-down and rebuilt ...
