terrific album
It truly takes a moron of astounding proportions to review an album 4 times and never having heard it all of the way through even once...and to be so oblivious to his own mental shortcomings that he actually admits all that I have stated IN WRITING. The latest Spocks Beard is a real gem and anyone who listens to it will soon see that and as it is with most terrific albums, it takes several listens to be fully appreciated. "Biaxident" in Toronto, and I am reluctant to admit that such a airheaded voidoid actually resides in my ex-homeland, seems to suffer from an unusual compulsion and obsession in spewing forth HER caustic, yet mindless drivel. It must be a she for guys tend to be much more analytical and not quite so emotionally unbalanced. Anyway, enough talk of those who were unfortunately conceived "biaxident" and buy this album. I love Neal Morse as well but Spocks Beard Mach II is an outstanding entity onto itself. Our hobbit-minded little friend in Toronto seems to have an unusual need to be validated in her assessment which would indicate serious doubt in her judgment and ability to skillfully review an album. That generally happens when insecurity is borne of an innate knowledge of one's profound failings & shortcomings. Spocks Beard is still a premiere force in todays prog rock scene for those will taste, points of reference, objectivity, and well, fully functioning points of learning ABOVE THE NECK.

there is life AFTER Morse!
First of all, Neal Morse is a profoundly gifted musician and no band could ever replace him. To the credit of Spocks Beard (Mach II), they haven't even tried. Instead, the Mach II version of this extremely talented band has soldiered on and created 3 distinctly different yet highly cohesive albums in the aftermath of Neal Morse's departure. Ranging from heavy "stuff" to piano to a wide range of intricately woven progressive textures, the Beard's latest is a superb example of professionalism and inspiration at its' very finest. It is almost mind-numbing that anyone could review an album having not even listened to all it (see the mindless drivel spewed forth by the Toronto Tonto down below and credibility he hath none). I love the Morse penned songs of yesteryear yet have embraced the newer material with objectivity, anticipation, and fairness. I suggest that others do the same.

I don't know what CD some are listening to..
But this is a stellar CD. I liked Octane ok though it still showed some post-Neil growing pains, but this CD is simply one of the best they've produced post OR pre Neil. The compositions are great with only one or two a bit shaky, the recording is excellent and Meros really stepped up his game in the writing department.

Worth the wait!
I am so glad I stuck with the Beard after Neal left, Yeah they went soft for a while, but this new album has grown on me and now each listen is as rewarding as anything the Beard ever wrote. Tell u what, put this album in your shuffle, put anything else in there to fill it up and press play. When a new Spock song comes on you are gonna be thrilled! These songs really stand up. Nick is getting away from his monochromatic "trained voice" and really on his way to becoming a more expressive singer. It'll happen. Alan's guitar playing is the best he has ever recorded, just awesome stuff. Ryo is obviously gettin' all excited again, and Dave's allways good, he's a rock! People who put this new version of SB down need to relax and start listening openly again, the magic is definitely back, or maybe they never liked SB anyway?

Give them a chance !!! still plenty of good stuff
The New Spocks Beard is just fine,
they are still discovering themsleves as song writers without Neils influence..I find the songs a little more refined and dynamic now, and not as all over the place as it was during the Neil Morse years.,dont get me wrong as A Prog.fan and musician I love that stuff, but there are alot of great elements and passages here to be heard, i enjoy this cd.. just give it some time, and throw out any preconcieved ideas you may have on what they "should" sound like , a Neil less Spocks Beard is still alot better than half the music out there....
