Classics album
$10.45 VOLUME 2 of THE LEGEND OF JOHNNY CASH provides an excellent complement to the first volume. The set ranges across Cash's career, spanning back to immortal classics like "Home of the Blues," "I Still Miss Someone," and "Long Black Veil," and to his late-period covers of songs by Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen. Duets are featured prominently; the ones with Waylon Jennings ("The Night Hank Williams Came to Town") and Bob Dylan ("Girl from the North Country") are highlights on an album full of highlights.
2007 release of the second Australian collection of great recordings from the late "Man In Black". Includes many of his most respected sessions, like "Girl From The North Country" (originally recorded with Bob Dylan) and covers of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" and a personal spiritual favorite "In The Sweet By And By".

| | Sugarland Gold And Green CD (2009)
Classics music CDs
$12.35 Georgia's Sugarland rose to great heights in 2009 - their 2008 album LOVE ON THE INSIDE reached platinum status, they recorded a prime-time network television special called LIVE ON THE INSIDE, which was then released in numerous packages that all sold well, and the group has sold out live shows globally. Therefore it seems to make sense for the group to release yet another stop-gap before the year runs out in lieu of a new studio album. GOLD AND GREEN is a hybrid holiday recording. It contains ten tracks, five of which are Christmas standards including a country boogie version of "Winter Wonderland," a "backwoods" "O Come O Come Emmanuel," and a steeped-in-reverence acoustic version of "Silent Night," sung bilingually in Spanish and English. The other five cuts are originals themed for the holidays. One has to give Sugarland some marks for trying to do something different than a standard-issue Christmas album.

| | Hank Williams, Jr Pressure Is On CDs (1981)
Classics songs
$5.99 THE PRESSURE IS ON is one of Hank Williams Jr.'s best '80s albums. The regretful anthem "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down" is almost a country version of Warren Zevon's "Detox Mansion."
On "The Coalition to Ban Coalitions," Williams does an excellent Daffy Duck imitation and comes to terms with our highly litigious society. "Some want to get rid of Fender guitars," he complains. There's also Williams Sr.'s "I Don't Care (If Tomorrow Never Comes)," done as a gorgeous duet with George Jones, and--reinforcing the family theme--the very funny "Ballad of Hank," written and co-sung by his father's old bandmate Don Helms.
This is Volume 7 of Curb's Bocephus series.
Personnel: Hank Williams, Jr. (vocals, guitar).

| | Hank Williams, Jr A.K.A. Wham Bam Sam CD (1996)
Classics album
$5.85 A.K.A. WHAM BAM SAM is one of Hank Williams Jr.'s best albums, with a nice balance between his traditional rowdy good old boy hellraiser schtick, and some genuinely sensitive, at times even shockingly musical moments. Speaking of the former, the funniest thing here, hands down, is the opening "Don Juan D'Bubba." A take-off on the then-current Johnny Depp movie "Don Juan DeMarco," it's the saga of a redneck Lothario who "only serves the cheapest supermarket wine."
Other highlights include the genuinely touching cry-in-your-beer epic "Let's Keep the Heart in Country." The title song, a neo-Dixieland change of pace, is an ode to "the drummer king of New Orleans."
Recorded at Mid-Town, Sound Emporium Studios, and K.D. Studio, Nashville, Tennessee; K.D. Mobile Recording, Paris, Tennessee.
Personnel: Hank Williams, Jr. (background vocals); Michael Spriggs (acoustic guitar); Animal, John Jorgenson, John Willis, Brent Mason (electric guitar); Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Jimmy Hall, Terry McMillan (harmonica); John Hobbs, Tony Harrell, Steve Nathan (keyboards); Kenny Aronoff, Eddie Bayers, Chad Cromwell (drums); Neil Thrasher (background vocals).

| | Eric Clapton Ballads CD (2003) (Import) Japan; Limited Edition; Argentina
Classics music CDs
$43.09 This is an anthology of romantic tunes by British blues rock legend Eric Clapton.
The 2003 Japanese collection Ballads offers exactly what the title promises: 13 ballads from Clapton, most dating from the '70s, '80s and '90s, and most of them hits like "Tears in Heaven," "Change the World," "Wonderful Tonight," and the acoustic ...
| | T Rex Born To Boogie CDs (2005)
Classics songs
$17.19 This double-disc set is something of a holy grail for T. Rex fanatics. Both discs contain music from BORN TO BOOGIE, a film about T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan made by Ringo Starr in 1972. The film was considered lost until 2003, when old prints where found and painstakingly restored. This expanded CD reissue covers the music from the original film, as well as additional material, including excerpts from concerts recorded at Wembley stadium, and a BBC interview with Bolan from 1971.
Bolan is backed here by his crack band, and by Ringo and Elton John (both of whom are professed T. Rex fans). The playlist includes many of his finest tunes: the rollicking "Jeepster," the slinky bounce of "Get It On," and the epic, metaphysical autobiography-in-song "Cosmic Dancer," in addition to fun covers ("Tutti Frutti") and selections of Bolan's poetry. The tapes ...
