There tends to be a law of diminishing returns in a series, especially of compilation albums. The first one can be hot, and the second one pretty good, but by the time you hit the fourth in the series, the quality is decidedly lower. Sadly, that's pretty much the base here. There are some good cuts, such as Cheb Nasro's "C'est Pas La Peire," but for the most part this is a very pedestrian excursion into contemporary Arab music, as on Naked Rhythm's rather boring rap to Arab-inflected music or the cuts by Saad and Hoda. However, the mediocrity does mean that the good tracks really stand out. Zohar, with "Let There Be Light" seems to head North, more to Armenia and the Balkans, and away from the freneticism that's a signature of much of the music here. Everything ends on a high note, though, with the wonderfully named Soap Kills from Lebanon, who show that the electro scene there is alive and very creative. Overall, in spite of a few gems, it's hard to recommend this, especially as it comes without any liner notes giving information on the bands. ~ Chris Nickson Desert Roses 4 Review

Desert Roses 4 album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos ...

Desert Roses 4 music CDs
$12.29 Recorded live in various clubs before the band had their major breakthrough, STAND BY YOUR VAN is a collection of early songs unfamiliar to most novice fans of Sublime. What you hear is the good-spirited party-vibe of Brad Nowell before his untimely death. On the verge of greatness at the time of these recordings, Nowell and the band run through 16 songs including a track that pays homage to hip-hop legend KRS-One.
By combining ska, punk, reggae, hip-hop and dub, Sublime would have ...
| | Alec Milstein Dancing In The Rain CD (2000)
Desert Roses 4 songs
$16.49 Having recorded and toured with some of the most popular performers in smooth jazz, it would have been very easy for composer and multi-instrumentalist Alec Milstein to go the safe route for his solo debut and create a mainstream recording in that genre. Feeling the artistic need to dig much deeper, Milstein on Dancing in the Rain explores a great love for Latin music which he first cultivated when he became aware of a South American heritage on his mother's side of the family. While his career as both a sideman and composer for television and film has allowed him to ...
