FRIENDLINESS...PLUS features the 1972 album FRIENDLINESS with extra tracks.
The early-1970s British band Stackridge took up the mantle of purveyors of musical whimsy to the masses that had been abandoned by the Bonzo Dog Band at the end of the '60s. Their idiosyncratic live show was bolstered by a succession of eccentric yet impeccably realized albums. FRIENDLINESS bridges the gap between '60s Bonzos-inspired lunacy and early-'70s progressive rock with songs like the jazzy "Father Frankenstein Is Behind Your Pillow," the camp, McCartney-esque "Anyone For Tennis," and the exquisite post-psychedelia of "There Is No Refuge."
The difficult second album syndrome did not apply to STACKRIDGE having chosen to produce their debut album of songs their audience had not heard before back in 1971. So when the time came to record 'Friendliness' in 1972 they still had a few favorites in their locker. A month after 'Friendliness' was released, when in December 1972 they toured Britain with fellow Bristol band The Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra, the Sounds music paper described their shows as 'three hours of fun, lust and lunacy'. This album is remastered by JAMES WARREN and ANDY DAVIS with bonus tracks. Musicians include: ANDY DAVIS, JAMES WARREN, MUTTER SLATER, JIM 'CRUN' WALTER, MIKE EVANS and BILLY SPARKLE.

| | Stackridge CD (1971) England; Remastered
Friendliness songs
$14.35 Once upon a time, there was a band called Stackridge. They aspired, according to guitarist, bassist and singer James Warren to 'a pure, solid melodicism, rhythmic complexity and a weird combination of pastoral, philosophical and positively surreal lyrics.' The original 6-piece line-up that came together in Bristol in 1969 comprised Warren, Andy Davis, and Jim 'Crun' Walter. 'Stackridge' was created on 16-track equipment at Kingsway Studios, London in 1971 with the help of producer Fritz Fryer; engineer was Martin Birch. Quite what ...
| | Stackridge Man In The Bowler Hat CD (1973) England
Friendliness album
$14.35 Edsel's 1996 reissue of THE MAN IN THE BOWLER HAT adds three tracks to the original LP.
Produced by George Martin, The Man in the Bowler Hat continues Stackridge's brand of satiric rock marbled with elements of folk and to some extent, even country. The lyrics are just as witty as in their first two releases, and the poetry glistens with a jovial Englishness that became the band's most identifiable trademark. With Martin's help, though, the album became one of their better releases, as the music rises to the top before the words do, sounding fresher, livelier, and noticeably sharper than both their debut and 1972's Friendliness. Stackridge's best song, "Dangerous Bacon," was released as a single, and it's in this song as well as "The Galloping Gaucho" and "The Indifferent Hedgehog" in which their sound comes alive. The eccentric combination of Mutter Slater's flute and the playful airiness of Mike Evans' violin give the melodies a lightheartedness that is catchy and original. Andy Davis' keyboard work doesn't hide the warmth of the strings or the woodwinds, and the album as a whole sports a cheeriness which disappointingly began to subside ...

Friendliness album
$12.35 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
With the glut of B.J. Thomas greatest-hits packages available, it's difficult to know what contains the actual hits and what are second-rate re-recordings. Unfortunately, Greatest and Latest falls into the second category. While this compilation mixes tunes from his late-'60s prime and early-'80s comeback, they are not the arrangements that have been etched into the memories of anyone who ever heard them. "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" without the Burt Bacharach arrangement sounds flat, even though Thomas' voice ...

$19.69 | | Losing Caufield Darkest Side Of Town CD (2008)
Friendliness CD music
$16.45 For the members of Losing Caufield, the summer of 2008 is a time of change. Itâs a time to try and shed any preconceptions NEPA music fans may have about the band while also remaining true to themselves and their values and ideals.More than anything, however, itâs simply a time to rock. The Scranton-based band is putting the finishing touches on its second CD, titled âThe Darkest Side of Town,â and guitarist Stefan Ogonosky says fans will soon get a feel for some of the fresh musical styles the group is bringing to its songs.âWe donât really consider ourselves emo or pop/punk anymore,â says Ogonosky. âWe were like that at one point. Back in high school, that was the cool and hip thing, but now weâve grown and matured and weâre listening to all different kinds of music. People ask us all the time, âWhat do you guys sound like?â and itâs really hard for any of us to describe it. We put so many influences into our work itâs hard to put a label on it. We basically tell them itâs alternative rock.âOgonosky now likens the bandâs music to The Killers, but âwithout all the synths,â similar to the jangly, epic-style writing found on the groupâs âSamâs Townâ album, which he feels offers a touch of U2 and even Bruce Springsteen. Such an eclectic mix of influences can also be found on Losing Caufield, whose members collectively cite The Talking Heads, The Avett Brothers, Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Woody Guthrie, Brian Wilson, and Say Anything as favorites. âWe come from different areas of music, but we kind of get each other interested in what weâre listening to and we turn each other onto different things,â says Ogonosky. âItâs an outside-of-the-box type of deal, and we basically just try to mesh together all of our influences into the songwriting process.âLosing Caufieldâs name is derived from J.D. Salingerâs âThe Catcher in The Rye.â The band was formed about three and a half years ago, and its current lineup also features Patrick McGlynn on lead vocals and guitars, new member Kevin Stone on bass and Nick Ogonosky on drums. Tracks on the forthcoming album include âWhen We Get Old,â âIâve Never Been Afraid To Dieâ and the title track, all of which can be heard on the groupâs MySpace page. The CD â which in addition to traditional rock instruments, features banjos, organs, acoustic guitars and a female backing singer on one track â was recorded late last year at Sound Investments in Scranton.Ogonosky says most of the lyrics to Losing Caufieldâs songs are penned by McGlynn. And though he says the singer likes to keep a sense of ambiguity around the meaning of most of the songs, he does have a clear answer ...
