As with all of the releases in the Extended Versions series, the 2006 Jethro Tull edition is a set of latter-day live renditions of some of the group's best-known classics -- which have all been previously released. And as with most Tull releases after, say, 1980, the performances and production here are exceedingly clean-sounding -- in other words, the bite of their classic early-'70s period is nowhere to be found. What you get instead are pretty blah versions of such classics as "Aqualung," "Locomotive Breath," and "Living in the Past." But it's always a gas to hear such lesser-known Tull tunes as "Fat Man" and "Nothing Is Easy," both of which are included here, while a truncated version of "Thick as a Brick" (which still clocks in at over nine minutes) is a rare point where the group truly sounds inspired. For a true collection of classic/definitive Tull, 1985's Original Masters or 2001's Very Best of Jethro Tull will do much better. ~ Greg Prato

Jethro Tull - Extended Versions Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) A Bit Uneven, Probably a "Three and Half" This album has its moments, both good and bad. The sound mix is good on acoustical offerings, somewhat muddy on the electric songs. Having seen the band many times, this album falls a bit too short on the sound quality on too many of the heavier cuts. But it is live Tull of recent vintage at a great price. Worth The Wait Love the CD. It was backordered but CD Universe kept me up to date and I received the Cd in perfect shape. Tull is my all time favorite band. Submitted by dzenkel (Rochester, NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good, but a wasGood, but it isn't new material I do not own this album, but I have previewed samples of each track at a local music store. The first thing I noticed is that all these tracks are taken from the "Living With The Past" album (not to be comfused with living in the past). So, if you already own "LWTP," there is no sense buying this CD, however, if you are looking for a decent sample of how Tull sounds live these days, this is a good disc to pick up. Overall, I'd say that the entire performance which I have on CD and DVD is ok, but for a live compilation CD like this one, I wish that they would have included tracks from 1978's "Bursting Out" and "Live At The Hammersmith... 1990" which I have yet to get my hands on.
If you're looking for god live Tull, I'd personally check out "Bursting Out" first, or, the recently remastered "A Little Light Music" which is not AS good, but is very decent to say the least. I have been a Tull fan for years and I try to collect all of their CDs, even re-issues and compilations. But for the interested consumer, I think there are better live albums that will give you a more suitable introduction to how this great band sounded in their prime. great compilation Great music top to bottom. Love the song Dot Com. sound quality is great. I do believe all these songs have been previously released on other Jethro Tull CDs. Particularly Living With The Past. Submitted by robert (ocean, jersey) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Nice One Not a bad compilation - sound is good and performances are also good. On track 5 they should have started the track after Loco Breath finished and the track order could have been better but also live Tull released is a bonus.
Dot Com keeps me from giving this 5 stars - just hate the song ! Submitted by Larry B (Toms River, New Jersey USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
