| | Tyrese Alter Ego CD Tyrese Discography of CDs
(22 Customer Reviews)
On his fourth studio outing, 2006's two-disc ALTER EGO, R&B singer/actor Tyrese Gibson presents a collection divided between smooth, romantic slow jams (performed as "Black Ty") and more upbeat, hip-hop-oriented tunes. Highlights of the ambitious release include the sensual "Turn Ya Out" and "One," where Tyrese makes an uncharacteristic appeal for monogamy, as well as the funky "Roll Tha Dice," a slice of West Coast rap featuring none other than Snoop Dogg. Although Tyrese spent much of the time after '02's I WANNA GO THERE focusing on his movie career (2 FAST 2 FURIOUS, FOUR BROTHERS), ALTER EGO resoundingly proves that the former model is still committed to making music.

SPECTACULAR!!! I'm ready for more!!! Tyrese is double-trouble here. I have to admit I had one eyebrow raised when my baby said he could rap too. But now I'm noddin' my head from left to right feeling him. I love Black-Ty, but I'm in love with Tyrese...he speaks to my soul. Submitted by honey68will (Newville, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Alter Ego album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's ...

| | Lil Scrappy Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live CD (2006) Parental Advisory
Alter Ego songs
$15.65 Lil Scrappy was already a certified Dirty South superstar (having come up strong under the tutelage of Crunk virtuoso Lil Jon, and recorded alongside fellow Atlanta acts like Trillville) before he signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit South label. His first album for the budding sub-label, BRED 2 DIE BORN 2 LIVE, represents a maturation of sorts for Scrap. Lyrically he's in the same place he's always been, recounting street-hustle scenarios, wallowing in glock-toting gangsta paranoia, and triumphantly celebrating his material ...

Alter Ego album
$10.59 On his second major-label release, Compton rapper and former Dr. Dre protege The Game returns with more of the West Coast gangsta flavor that has been his trademark since the 2004 indie debut, UNTOLD STORY. DOCTOR'S ADVOCATE's production credits include a long and eclectic list of super-producers such as DJ Khalil, Will.I.Am, Just Blaze, Kanye West, Scott Storch, ...
| | Akon Konvicted CD (2006)
Alter Ego CD music
$12.49 Senegalese-born R&B singer Akon returns with the follow-up to his highly acclaimed debut TROUBLE. The talented vocalist shows he's able to juggle a few different R&B styles from seductive love songs ("I Wanna Love You") to deeper dirges of self-reflection ("The Rain") to heartfelt tributes to his homeland ("Mama Africa"). KONVICTED also has its share of hardcore hip-hop, with guest appearances from Styles-P and Snoop Dogg; Eminem even checks in on the official club hit, "Smack That."

| | Isley Brothers Eternal CD (2001)
Alter Ego songs
$6.69 "Contagious" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
Reduced to siblings Ronald and younger brother Ernie (Rudolph became a minister, O'Kelly passed on in 1986, and Marvin was beset by diabetes), the Isley Brothers' Dreamworks debut is still very much in the vein of past triumphs. Plenty of smooth grooves, songs dealing with the varying facets of romance, and at least one Isleyfied cover (this time out Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now" finds Ronald Isley transforming the MOR standard into a slow jam classic).
Resurrecting Mr. Biggs, the larger-than-life playa alter-ego that first surfaced on R. Kelly's 1995 hit "Down Low (Nobody Has To Know)," older sibling Ronald gets to coolly snarl his way through "Contagious," a tale of discovered infidelity featuring Kelly as the other guy. Other notables who pop up are Philly songstress Jill Scott (the simmering duet "Said Enough") and Angela Winbush (the silk-sheet anthem "Warm Summer Night"). Ernie Isley's guitar playing also plays a major role whether it's on the chugging jam "Move Your Body" or the smoldering "Ernie's Jam." Aided by the cream of contemporary R&B, The Isleys continue to prove their relevance after 40-plus years of forging trends.
Additional personnel includes: Angela Winbush (vocals, keyboards, programming); Steve "Stone" Huff, Jimmy Jam, Terry Louis (various instruments); Raphael Saadiq (guitar, bass, background vocals); Donnie Lyle (guitar, bass); James "Big Jim" Wright (keyboards, background vocals); Kevin Wooten ...
