Single, attractive Isabelle ("Izzy") Grossman has a rent-controlled uptown apartment and a blooming career in publishing. She also has Bubbie, a tradition-minded grandmother who's hired a matchmaker to find a husband for Izzy. There's already a prospect: the corner pickle seller?! Amy Irving as Izzy is the radiant center of this witty charmer, and her co-stars strike comic sparks galore as old-world ways rub against new-world woes: Peter Riegert as the pickle man, Jeroen Krabbe as his rival and Sylvia Miles as the matchmaker. Amy Irving stars as Isabella Grossman in this enjoyable, slightly off-kilter romantic comedy from Joan Micklin Silver. A beautiful woman in her early thirties, Isabella works as the manager of New York City bookstore, putting her in contact with a wide range of stellar literary figures. Among them is Anton Maes (Jeroen Krabbe), an egotistical European poet who, smitten, offers her a job as his personal secretary. However, it becomes clear that typing and filing were not what Anton had in mind, and Isabella is soon involved with him. But her grandmother, Bubbie (Reizl Bozyk), unhappy with Isabella's unmarried status, intervenes, contracting with a matchmaker (Sylvia Miles) to introduce her to a nice Jewish man. Isabella agrees to date pickle salesman Sam Posner (Peter Riegert), and, predictably, it doesn't go too well. Naturally, things are not always as they seem, and Isabella has to rethink some of her assumptions before she can find love in this charming, old-fashioned take on romance in the 1980s. Theatrical release: August 24, 1988.

this movie is for every woman who has had a bad romance in her life. it teaches you to listen to older wiser women when it comes to love, cause yhey seem to have the secret.

 DVD is Overdue
All the prise you've heard is right. This is one of the ten best romantic comedies ever made. Amy Irving has the role of a lifetime and does her best. Peter Riegert is great as always, and there is a wonderful supporting cast that includes singer Suzzy Roche. This one is a real gem.

A little, little movie with a BIG heart!
If you're into car chases, explosions and non-stop CGI (computer generated images), perhaps THIS isn't the movie for you. This film
features real, warm and downright unforgettable characters, witty dialogue and
old-fashioned romance. Give it a try, you just
might learn to appreciate "chick flicks!" An added bonus, the music of The Roches!

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums.
