$11.19 Chicago 16 finally gave Chicago a big hit after a four-year drought, thanks in large part to new producer David Foster, who steered the jazz-rock veterans toward a streamlined, crisply produced pop direction on that 1982 effort. Given that success, it's no surprise that the septet teamed with Foster again for its next album, 1984's Chicago 17 (apparently Roman numerals were left behind along with their progressive jazz-rock). It's also no surprise that Foster took an even greater control of 17, steering the group further down the adult contemporary ...

Hit The Ground Running CD music
$15.65 The most adventurous quartet in contemporary jazz has met its visual match in Peter Max, the legendary pop artist who, as it turns out, is a huge fan of the band. Russell Ferrante and company could probably feel at home naming any of their innovative, loose-spirited albums after one of Max's paintings, but Altered State definitely fits the vibe here -- which is all odd meters, emotionally provocative melodic lines, and unexpected harmonies. Max, in turn, took a few preliminary tracks and was inspired to create the cool, splotchy cover art. The hourlong musical affair won't cause any permanent ...
| | Stray Move It CD (1974) (Import)
Hit The Ground Running music CDs
$18.99 Stray's fifth studio album, 1974's Move It, was their first recorded in America (Connecticut, to be exact) and represented something of a back-to-basics approach following the baroque orchestrations and surprising horn sections that had dominated the previous year's Mudanzas. Ironically, though, even fans who had thought that album a bit too excessive would probably agree that Move It's comparative boogie rock simplicity felt more like an admission of defeat than a confident creative redirection, especially in light of the abundance of pedestrian tracks like "Hey Domino," "Don't Look Back," and "Give It Up" (a weepy ballad as dispirited in execution as its title suggested) and contrasting short supply of edgy, hard rock muscle (only really mustered for "Somebody Called You"). Vocalist Steve Gadd's songwriting appeared to be growing increasingly distant from that of his bandmates, with ho-hum, hippie-folk-lite contributions like "Mystic Lady" and "Our Plea" featuring hokey words like "Sweet mother Earth, man has raped you," etc., and foretelling this imminent departure from Stray. And, for a band that had heretofore staunchly avoided recording cover versions for any of their previous studio albums, the inclusion of Cliff Richard's ancient hit that named the album and American soul singer Jimmy Helms' (he of "Gonna Make You an Offer You Can't ...

Hit The Ground Running album
$7.49 From their beginning in 2000, the Connersville, Indiana-based group Kramus has been on a steady path of growth helping to redefine the diversity, emotion, and influence of rock music in the Midwest. Kramus has emerged as one of the Indiana scene's leaders in performance and promotion. Die hard commitment is a powerful, unifying motivation for this band. Switching out from heavy to soft, from fast to slow, heavy rock inspired riffs to melodic, the music is diverse enough to be accessible to any fan of heavy rock. Part of Kramus' strategy is to push every emotional button within their audience with their music.Formed in 2000, Kramus consisted of Jeremy Lovins(Lead Guitar), Ryan Snoddy(Bass), Matt Ledford(Guitar, Vocals), and Casey Wainwright(Drums). They got off to a quick start, retaining fans from their previous Fadeaway project. The lineup ran its course and after a couple of member changes, in 2005, Kramus picked up long-time friend Johnny Harrod to take over the drummer position. Things began to pick up for the band and they soon signed on with Lambert Entertainment Group as management in early 2006. Kramus then aimed their sights at performing live, putting considerable concentration towards amassing more than just a large, loyal hometown audience. The EP "If Only For Moments", recorded in 2006 was very well received by the bands fans. As the band's fanbase grew, they started headlining shows in the Indianapolis area, along with opening for notable national acts such as Saliva, Dope, Hurt, and Nonpoint. This routine carried the band through many notable times until early 2008 when tragedy struck. The band had lost their lead singer and long time friend Matt Ledford. He passed away on Feb. 1st 2008 and the remaining members did not know what to do or where to go from ...
