| | Michael Buble Crazy Love CD (2009)
Evolution
$14.49 Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad "Cry Me a River" and ...
| | Bob Dylan Christmas In The Heart CD (2009)
Evolution
$12.85 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses ...
| | Pink Martini Splendor In The Grass CD (2009) Digipak
Evolution
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' ...

| | John Fick Southern California Jazz Company Open For Business CD (2001)
Evolution
$13.15 Veteran trumpeter John Fick leads one of LA's better big bands. This ensemble originated in Pasadena in 1993 as a weekly rehersal band. They've performed at the Baked Potato, at Steamers and at various local outdoor spots.Arrangers Gary Urwin, Sandy Megas, Bill Fulton and Gordon Brisker have provided the essentials. With such fine arrangements, the rest is easy.Fick's mellow trumpet begins "I Thought About You" with a pleasant, bouncy manner. His quiet, delicate style serves as a calming force.Fluid and forceful on "You Took Advantage Of Me," he introduces a flute-like quality from his horn that reaches out and colors the entire session. The band works with a "less is more" philosophy that allows more of the quality to come forward. It's the kind of album you want to listen to over and over, in order to pick up on all the nuances. While the band's forte is its ensemble spirit, there are appreciable solo spots.Steve Ferguson's bass trombone feature on "Over The Rainbow" provides a slow mellow dream.Tenor saxophonist Tony Garcia provides bright solo spots on several numbers. His bouncy salsa solo on Bill Fulton's "Los Gringos" runs light, but with animated action.Alto saxophonist Jim Quam and trombonist Dave Woodley step out on "Stella By Starlight" to improvise with ease.Quam's feature on "The Summer Of '42" drifts leisurely with a vocal-like charm. The late Michie Sahara appears with the band for three lovely vocal arrangements: "Send In The Clowns", "As Time Goes By" and "Stompin' At The Savoy".Made up of veterans who respect good tone and know all about teamwork, John Fick's Southern California Jazz Company does the community a good service.Catch 'em when you can. Jim Santella LA Jazz Scene, November, 2001 A rehearsal band out of Southern California organized by business man/trumpet player John Fick that ...

$10.15 JENA DOUGLAS BIOGRAPHY Jena has been writing songs for over 25 years. She has an Associate of Art degree in music from Santa Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music from University of California Santa Barbara. She is a single parent of a very musically talented teenage boy named Dylan Douglas. She has just completed a book on Songwriting called, A Singer/Songwriter’s Guide To Songwriting and plays with her rock band on a regular basis. Jena is looking forward to touring and writing more songs over the summer, and recording a new CD, “The Face Of The Enigma”, with a little more on edge. “The Face Of the Engima” will be more on the Bluesy Rock Style as her songwriting skills keep evolving or revolving. “Faded Fiction” was recorded in 1998 with Ben Forrest Davis (formally with Sugarcult) as co-producer, drummer, guitar player and background vocalist. Also featured are some of the same musicians from “The Ballad Of Calamity”; Tony Ybarra, Keith Douglas and Dr. John Clark. “Faded Fiction” was recorded during the time Jena was attending, Santa Barbara City College. “And I Fell” from this CD was performed in front of David Crosby. David Crosby was very moved by the song and very personable to Jena about her song as you can read from the article, “Advice From The Woodstock Era”, see www.jenadouglas.com press/reviews. After receiving her degree from the University in 2001, Jena plunged back into her songwriting and in 2004 released her songs recorded in 1998 as, “Faded Fiction” then went on to record, “The Ballad Of Calamity”. To promote her CD she put together a band and now is playing clubs and festivals around the Santa Barbara area. She is also submitting songs to film and TV and has just completed her songwriting book, A Singer/Songwriter’s Guide To Songwriting to be published this ...
