Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re In 1900 Vienna, a magician named Eisenheim the Illusionist is mystifying audiences with a remarkable magic act that is seemingly too good to believe. Chief Inspector Uhl, who is in the pocket of Crown Prince Leopold--and considers himself somewhat of an amateur conjurer--becomes obsessed with Eisenheim; Uhl is not only desperate to find out the secrets behind Eisenheim's tricks but also worried that the master magician might pose a threat to the crown prince's nefarious plans. In addition, Eisenheim is quickly growing close to Duchess Sophie von Teschen, his childhood love, who is engaged to Leopold. As Eisenheim's act becomes even more amazing--including apparently raising the spirits of the dead--he enrages the crown prince even further, leading to deception and murder. Edward Norton (FIGHT CLUB), who studied magic with Ricky Jay (THE SPANISH PRISONER) in preparing for the role, is terrific as Eisenheim, an enigmatic showman hiding a dark side. The excellent supporting cast features fine performances by Rufus Sewell (A KNIGHT'S TALE) as the evil, conniving Leopold; Jessica Biel (7TH HEAVEN) as the beautiful Sophie; and Paul Giamatti (SIDEWAYS) as the perceptive but bumbling Uhl. Written and directed by Neil Burger (INTERVIEW WITH THE ASSASSIN), THE ILLUSIONIST, which is based on a short story by Pulitzer Prizewinner Steven Millhauser, is a complex tale filled with mystery and awe. The compelling score was composed by minimalist musician Philip Glass and conducted by Michael Reisman. Illusionist Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A better-than-average movie...3.5 stars Saw this over the weekend and thought it was a very solid movie with some good acting. This is the first time I've seen a movie with Jessica Biel...Jesus, is she pretty. I couldn't take my eyes off of her...especially her mouth. Paul Giamatti's acting was particularly noteworthy and I even enjoyed Rufus Sewell (whom I typically find rather unmemorable). Recommended. Submitted by Brian P (Fremont, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Excellence is the Illusionist. How a movie like this can be made today is a mystery and a major achievement.
Clean family fun. Mystery of the highest quality. Instead of the big boffo ending we have a very well constructed cinematic epiloge.
This movie proves that the Oscars mean very little except to the acadamy. Us people want more films like this.
So heres your Oscar from me. Congradulations. Submitted by Vince O (Tampa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellence galore I failed to see this excellent motion pcture when it was orignally shown in theaters. After seeing it in my mniature lcd dvd player I was baffled by Giamatti's and Norton's performances, the atmosphere, the costumes and the feel of a time gone by.Gone With the Wind,is amateurish in every respect when compared with The Illusionist.Hip,hip, hooray thrice. Full of mystery and supense as only Norton could do This movie is has got to be one of Norton best. It grabs you and holds thoughout the movie as only Norton always does in his movie for the surprise ending. The movie is wonderfully acted and a great suspense full of mystery with a astonishing ending. It also beautifully filmed to keep to the error time. If you enjoy this movie and you are impressed with Norton's acting, you would be impressed with his movie Primal Fear. Submitted by fecheetah (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Illusionist film
$8.35 Dan Brown's best-selling book THE DA VINCI CODE gets adapted for the big screen thanks to director Ron Howard (CINDERELLA MAN), who helms this big budget production. Veteran actor Tom Hanks stars as professor Robert Langdon, whose Parisian lecture tour on feminine symbolism gets disrupted when he's implicated in a murder at the Louvre. Co-starring with Hanks is Audrey Tautou (AMELIE), the French police analyst who comes to Langdon's aid and who may hold the key to some of the mysteries. The cast is fleshed out by Jean Reno as a hangdog French detective who thinks he can trick Langdon into a confession; Paul Bettany as Silas, the murderous monk; Alfred Molina as an evil Catholic cardinal; and Ian McKellen, who steals the movie in the second act as a crotchety old authority on the Holy Grail. During the course of the film, all sorts of riddles, keys, clues, and enigmas are thrown in our hero's path, along with bullets, knives, and devious betrayals.

$11.79 Seeking respite from his fate with Davy Jones, Jack enlists the aid of Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), a practitioner of the supernatural, in an effort to locate the Dead Man's Chest that supposedly contains Jones's still-beating heart. Whoever possesses the heart controls Jones, and thereby controls the seas. And so the adventure continues as Jack, Will, and the Black Pearl crew track down the Flying Dutchman in search of redemption. This rollicking summer adventure, directed by Gore Verbinski (THE WEATHER MAN, THE RING), features multiple intersecting storylines, unique stunts, and a pithy script that lets each main character shine, while the costumes and makeup for Jones and his sea creature crew are nothing short of spectacular.

Illusionist movie DVD
$10.25 British director Christopher Nolan's (BATMAN BEGINS) eclectic resume gains another interesting entry with THE PRESTIGE. The basic plot, which concerns the rivalry between two magicians in early 20th-century London, closely resembles a fellow 2006 movie--Edward Norton's THE ILLUSIONIST--and the two films are sure to be closely compared. In Nolan's film, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale bring the characters of Robert Angier and Alfred Bordon to life. Robert and Alfred were young magician apprentices together, but became bitter rivals as their careers began to shape their adult lives and a terrible accident claimed the life of Robert's wife. In the subsequent years Robert has become wildly jealous of Alfred's superior talents, so in a last ditch attempt to steal some artistic ground he sends his assistant, Olivia (Scarlett Johansson), to infiltrate his rival's lair and steal the secret to a spectacular trick called "The Transported Man."
Nolan's film twists and turns down a number of unexpected avenues as it flits back and forth between ...
