Reflections Of Obscure album
$21.94 When Anthrax released AMONG THE LIVING in 1987, the band was a part of a then-burgeoning heavy metal sub-genre called speed or thrash metal. This was an inversion of glam metal. The band members wore worn-out jeans and T-shirts, their long hair was hairspray-free, and not a smudge of make-up was applied to their unsightly mugs. Their music was dense, borrowing speed from punk and hardcore and mammoth guitar riffing from metal, and featured thought-provoking lyrics. AMONG THE LIVING not only served as Anthrax's commercial breakthrough, but (along with seminal releases by Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer) the album brought this new musical form to the forefront.
The members of Anthrax were a bunch of comic-book-reading, jam-wearing heavy metal ...

Reflections Of Obscure album
$15.05 The American version of THE SILENT FORCE features two bonus tracks ("Destroyed" and "Jane Doe") not available on the European edition.
Available in the U.S. for the first time in 2008, Dutch symphonic rock heroes Within Temptation's 2004 epic, THE SILENT FORCE, continued the band's incomparable blend of classical, New Age, opera, and heavy metal music. In addition, the latter-day prog rockers' fourth studio release topped the charts all over Europe and scored two major singles ("Stand My Ground" and "Memories").
"The Silent Force" is an exhilarating listen - a monument of opulent melodies, sweeping orchestral elements and ...
| | Pelican What We All Come To Need CD (2009)
Reflections Of Obscure CD music
$11.49 One had to wonder what Pelican's signing to Southern Lord could possibly mean. To be truthful, while the band did write and perform more structurally formal material on 2007's CITY OF ECHOES, they retained their trademark post-metal aesthetic -- percussive repetition, overtone basslines, and nuanced guitar riffing. On WHAT WE ALL COME TO NEED, they have taken it not a step further, but a step more inside that aesthetic. The concentration here is on ...

| | Otep Sevas Tra CD (2002) Limited Edition; Digipak; Enhanced CD
Reflections Of Obscure album
$11.39 Otep instantly raises the bar on today's female-fronted metal band scene. Signed in the wake of some serious Ozzfest buzz (the band landed a coveted spot on the tour with no record deal), the California quartet makes acts such as Kittie or Snake River Conspiracy seem tame by comparison. The band's first full-length, SEVAS TRA packs a menacing groovecore punch.
Part poet and part Barbie-doll growler, enchanting vocalist Otep Shamaya could easily give Corey Taylor (Slipknot) or Phil Anselmo (Pantera) a run for their money. Shamaya's self-proclaimed poeticism clearly suggests that the scary-sounding band name is a simple anagram. Otep's music is at times, crushing, anthemic, and venemously vengeful. Think Slayer-meets-RATM for "T.R.I.C," one of many brutal tracks, expertly produced by metal veteran Terry Date. "Posession" and "Blood Pigs" capture Pantera-like intensity with mountainous grooves. Recurring lyrical themes address empowerment ("Battle Ready"), politics ("Thots"), and especially the issue of abuses committed in what were once relationships of trust ("Tortured"). "Jonestown Tea" contains a disturbing twist on the Oedipal section of ...
| | Static-X Start A War CD (2005) Bonus Track; Japan
Reflections Of Obscure CD music
$39.09 This Japanese release of the album includes an extra song and is also packaged with a NTSC/Region 2 DVD.
START A WAR's attendant printed info notes that the disc was recorded in "Sunny Burbank, California." A few seconds, however, is all it will take to convince listeners that this is one of Static X's darkest efforts. "The Enemy" skitters along at a frenetic, machine-gun-like pace appropriate for it's war-related title, while lead vocalist/screamer Wayne Static delivers an abrasive yet fleet-tongued combination of death-metal growling and East Coast ...

| | Kevin Lee Magner Me'Lange CD (2009)
Reflections Of Obscure album
$18.99 Growing out of the rootstock of music of the sixties comes Kevin Lee Magner with an eclectic blend of music that subtly hints influences of rhythm and blues, folk, hard rock, blues, country, bluegrass, and elements of gospel. Kevin’s musical journey has taken him from the early days of twangy California surf music, through the British Invasion, the sweet harmonies of Byrdsy type folk/rock bands of the mid sixties, the raw and hard driving of the blues, to the early predecessor of country and rock fusion. Listen, it’s all ...
| | Cake Motorcade Of Generosity CD (1994) Digipak
Reflections Of Obscure CD music
$8.25 Before Cake became a renowned alternative-rock act with "The Distance" and its intentionally leaden cover of Donna Summer's "I Will Survive," the Sacramento-based group garnered attention for the cheeky single "Rock 'N' Roll Lifestyle," from its 1994 debut, MOTORCADE OF GENEROSITY. The immediately catchy tune serves as Cake 101, featuring all of the band's sonic trademarks--frontman John McCrea's deadpan vocals, intra-song genre-hopping, and, of course, plenty of trumpet (courtesy of Vince di Fiore)--which carry along wonderfully wry commentary about rock poseurs. While the rest of the album isn't quite ...
