| | Ronniejcameron Make Me Your Servant Lord CD (2005)
Manabi Straight! Character Eto Mei CD music
$18.99 Blessed be the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, from whom all blessings flow. This CD is undoubtedly one of Ronnie J’s best projects to date. Born Ronald Cameron in the South American country of Guyana and named after his father, who was also a singer, Ronnie started singing at age three and was writing short poems and songs from the tender age of six. By age ten he was winning top prizes on the country’s radio program, “On show young Guyana”. According to Ronnie, his dad, his best friend and mentor, taught him the importance of listening to the intricacies of music arrangements and the part each instrument play in the overall recording process. It was this early training that enabled J, as he is sometimes called, to develop the art of producing music( he confesses to never having any formal music training). Ronnie’s early influences include, Nat “king” Cole, Billy Eckstine, Sarah Vaughn, Quincy Jones, Henri Mancini, Donny Hathaway, the sound of MFSB and Mantovani. At age sixteen he received a revelation in a dream that one day he would go to a far away place and make music praising God; this he told only to his mom and dad. In 1981 Ronnie landed a job as a sound engineer at then Guyana Broadcasting Corporation and it was there that his mixing abilities came into focus, being requested by all the top disc jockeys as a working partner on the station’s morning and afternoon shows. Ronnie represented his country at several song festivals including "The Caribbean Broadcasting Union Song Festival" and the "Curacao International Song Festival in the mid 80's. In 1987 he left Guyana for Antigua where he worked as a news journalist/disc jockey. As fate would have it, a dangerous news assignment and the threats that came with covering such an assignment caused him to leave Antigua with his family, including his two year old son, for the USA. In 1996 Ronnie was called to the music ministry and was baptized in the HOLY SPIRIT at the FULL GOSPEL TABERNACLE CHURCH of MEMPHIS, TN. Rev. AL GREEN pastor. During that time he also worked in the health care field and read for the sight impaired at WYPL radio. It was then that he began writing songs praising our lord and savior, out of which came the CD” BECAUSE HE CARES” which contained crowd favorites like “HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH” featuring Nigerian born sax player ABRAHAM OGONLADE,” A CHANCE TO SAY GOODBYE” written for his spiritual mentor and surrogate grandmother(teacher)Phyllis Jordan, "ITS JUST LIKE HEAVEN" and “ BECAUSE HE CARES”, ...
| | Wholesale Klezmer Band Yidn Fun Amol Jews Of Long Ago CD (2002)
Manabi Straight! Character Eto Mei music CDs
$18.99 - Editorial Reviews -Ari Davidow, 1/1/98This album showcases the [Wholesale Klezmer] Band as it performs live, and for weddings and simkhas. As is to be expected, it is quite a treat. What I especially enjoy live, and what comes off to good effect on this album, is the effort the band makes to reconnect their audiences with Jewish storytelling a sense of Yiddish as a living language. As on previous albums, they include a couple of original songs in Yiddish, including the pointed "Redt Yiddish" (Speak Yiddish). In this song, Yosl notes that Yiddish was once used as a secret language--by our parents or grandparents, among others, secure in the that their kids had become real Americans--ignorant of the "mame loshn." But just as they once said to each other, "redt yiddish so the kids won't understand," those kids are now going to university to learn ... Yiddish. Yosl now sings, "redt everyone should understand." The other side of the live feel is the medleys, including a huge 16 minute bash towards the end, that reflect how klezmer music is really played when you want people to dance. Instead of playing song song song, a good klezmer band at a simkha starts playing and adjusts to the audience and keeps going until the dancers need a rest. In this, klezmer (and I presume, similar music) is different from modern rock and country, where the drummer keeps moving along at about the same pace while the band improvises until it gets tired. I much prefer the way Wholesale Klezmer and other simkha bands play, instead. The medleys also give clarinet player Sherry Mayrent a chance to showcase ...
