Chikyujin album
$15.65 Celtic Woman, initially a one-shot collaboration by six leading Irish vocalists for a 2004 PBS special, struck a chord of adoration for the Emerald Isle, a fancy affecting both sides of the Atlantic, and swiftly became a permanent collective. THE GREATEST JOURNEY captures many of the best moments of elegant harmonizing by the act, from their serene and rapturous take on Enya's "Orinoco Flow" to the mournful yet poppily uplifting indigenous folk of "You Raise Me Up."
Import pressing includes two bonus tracks, Mo Ghile Mear (Live From Slane Castle) and Spanish Lady (Live From Slane Castle). Since their beginning in 2005, Irish vocal phenomenon ...
| | Dead Can Dance/Garden Of The Arcane Delight CD (1984) Reissue; Special Edition; Extended Play
Chikyujin CD music
$11.99 On the evidence of this, the band's first record, Dead Can Dance can clearly be seen as a "Goth" group in the vein of Bauhaus, et al. The band's sound here is much more clearly based in the "contemporary"--Dead Can Dance uses traditional song structures, the group's instrumentation is almost entirely synthesized, and co-vocalist Lisa Gerrard's voice rarely gets into the ...
| | Victor Jara Antologia Musical CD (2003) Remastered; Remastered Edition
Chikyujin music CDs
$20.95 ANTOLOGIA MUSICAL collects the best-loved tracks from legendary Chilean folk artist and political prisoner Victor Jara, on two CDs.
Chilean singer Victor Jara's tragic death in 1973 (following the overthrow of Salvador Allende's government) robbed the world of one its most humane voices. A leading light in South America's nueva cancion movement, Jara wrote passionately and courageously about the rights of the downtrodden, but he also composed wonderful love songs as well as a handful of songs that displayed his wry sense of humor. This 45-track, two-disc collection was drawn largely from vinyl and cassette sources, since ...

| | Vanessa Da Mata Sim CD (2007)
Chikyujin album
$11.29 Sim is Vanessa da Mata's third album and the first after the huge commercial success of Essa Boneca Tem Manual, from 2004. If Essa Boneca Tem Manual was a blatant, although undeniably very successful, appeal to pure commercialism and the radio hit lists, Sim is a firm step back towards a more intellectual approach to Brazilian pop music. Liminha, who produced the last album, has been substituted by the hip and hyped production duo Kassin and Mario Caldato. As usual when Kassin is involved, the result is an excellent and very fresh sounding production which manages to give a very modern impression without appearing fake or overproduced. Sim was partly recorded in Jamaica, and reggae is indeed one of the primary themes of the album. "Vermelho," "Ilegais," and "Absurdo" are all pure reggae songs. And as a bonus, Sly & Robbie, one of Jamaica's most acclaimed and prolific producer teams, contribute on five tracks. A less welcome guest appearance is that of Ben Harper, who lends his voice and English lyrics to "Boa Sorte/Good Luck." The purpose of Harper's presence ...

| | Rough Guide To The Music Of Scandanavia: Polskas, Joiks, Accordions, Fiddle CDs (2000)
Chikyujin music CDs
$13.15 This is a 22-track sampler of the new music trends in Scandinavia from folk to classical to pop and avant-garde across seven countries in the region. It is remarkable in both its scope and in the quality of the music it presents, and is far more consistent than other Rough Guide offerings. There are familiar figures included, of course, from Frifot, Väsen, Värttinä, Hedningarna, and Annbjorg Lien. But there are lesser-known entities as well who have either devoted themselves to preserving tradition or gone out of their way to build upon it. Of the former there are Lena Willemark with her cohort Ave Moller, whose folk music can date back 500 years. There are also the mavericks like classical composer Louis Andreissen from Greenland whose work "Saqisaaq" is the most provocative and delightful thing on the collection. The in-betweens lie with Leena Joutsenlanhti from Finland. Her "Karitti" is drawn from folk tradition but creates ...

$15.15 Todor Bojadziev is one of the most unique apparitions of the Macedonian music scene. He dedicated his entire life to his basic profession, the medicine, achieving significant results in this field as a gynecology and obstetrics specialist. His copious experience brought to him enormous operative, teaching and social obligation. What makes Todor Bojadziev so distinguishable is the fact that during these years he concurrently developed an exceptional fruitful artistic career: as a composer, an arranger and pianist. This was founded on his vast affection towards the music, manifested ever since his earliest years and a very solid musical ...
