| | Level 42 World Machine CD Level 42 Discography of CDs
Although it looks like Level 42 will never make another album, at least we have one which seems destined to endure. Mark King had already proved he could slap his bass better than almost anybody; now it was his turn to demonstrate his prowess as a classy songwriter. He succeeded in buoyant fashion with every track, very funky, very poppy and at times upliftingly wonderful, especially 'Something About You' and 'Coup D'Etat'. The winner for emotion, however, is the heartfelt 'Leaving Me Now'. Perfection, deliberately made for the age of the CD.

World Machine CD music
$18.39 Over the years, the sophomore curse has plagued many talented artists, who showed considerable promise on their debut albums but failed to make good on that promise when they recorded their second albums. Gratefully, that wasn't a problem for Cerrone, whose sophomore album, Cerrone's Paradise, only strengthened his reputation in the Euro-disco field. This 1977 outing is similar to Cerrone's 1976 debut, Love in C Minor, but without sounding like musical recycling. On the original LP version of this album, the 16 minute title song took up all of side one, just as Love in C Minor's first side was devoted entirely to its title song. But "Cerrone's Paradise" is a fine orchestral Euro-disco work in its own right, and the slick but funky piece is far from a carbon copy of "Love in C Minor." Euro-disco fans also found a lot to admire about "Take Me" and "Time for Love," the ...

| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
World Machine CD music
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's "Rocky Raccoon." What Second Chapter immediately sets forth is the importance of Kirwan as a pop artist, and how, despite Fleetwood Mac's success after he left, his sounds could still have been beneficial to that supergroup. "Hot Summers Day" is a fine example of that, a beautiful song that could offset Buckingham's ...

World Machine CD music
$10.15 It's fairly safe to say that after the rather bland and lackluster, pompous career-ending album The Rapture, hope for a Siouxsie and the Banshees reunion (albeit live or otherwise) was probably less than enthusiastic. Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie had been making post-breakup waves with the Creatures, and Steven Severin seemed to settle in nicely in his little world of ambient music and erotic poetry. All that Banshees business seemed to be locked away in the past. So when it was announced that the reunited core three of Sioux, Budgie, and Severin would be playing a handful of shows across America ...

| | Reverend Horton Heat We Three Kings: Christmas Favorites CD (2005) Digipak
World Machine songs
$10.69 Who would have figured the man who brought us the world's most potent "Psychobilly Freakout" back in 1992 would be helping to share in the joy of the holiday season a mere 13 years later? We Three Kings is a set of 12 classic Christmas tunes (with one new original added for good measure) whipped into a nervous froth of twangy guitar and rolling drums by Jim Heath and his partners in crime, and without question this is the most user-friendly Reverend Horton Heat album to date. The Right Reverend makes with the big, frantic rock on several tunes, most notably a Caped Crusader-infused cover of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and a fifth-gear charge through Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run," but the real surprise is that the trio plays it relatively straight on a number of cuts, including a placid stroll through "Silver Bells" and a weepy cover of "Pretty Paper." Even the sole original tune, "Santa on the Roof," is awfully sedate by Heath's standards, and this may well be the first Reverend Horton Heat album without a single mention of gin or ...
