| | Grace Jones Ultimate Collection CD Grace Jones Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
It's not quite ultimate, but it is pretty close, containing three discs of prime Grace Jones, from her 1977 debut through the number one 1993 club single "Sex Drive." Unsurprisingly, since it is so extensive, The Ultimate Collection (a European release from Universal) goes too deep for casual Jones fans. It contains two versions of some cuts, like "My Jamaican Guy," included in its album and extended 12" mixes, and it does include quite a bit of material from her straightforward disco albums released in the '70s, when she had to be given much mainstream attention. Nothing of great significance is missing here. ~ Andy Kellman

Ultimate Collection Music Ultimate Collection Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) She has put it all together This is fantastic CD as some of her songs were only on albums now out of print. "Am I Ever Going to Fall in Love in NYC" is one of her best songs, and will forever be embrazened in my mind as first year college student leaving home for the first time.
Grace has made her mark in music history and this collection will surely let you hear the breath of talent and unique style she has. Submitted by herold_c (Atlanta, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Long Version "Do Or Die" The majority of the songs on this collection can be found on various other CD's, with the exception of the long version of "Do Or Die". That alone makes this collection worth having ! Submitted by tasc56 (san antonio, texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Ultimate Collection? Here it is. The ultimate Grace Jones collection. No compilation has ever managed to captured the full aspects of her career, The Grace Jones Story came pretty close, but unfortunately left off her biggest hit single: Slave to the Rhythm. This 3-CD box set chronicles her work from her debut album in 1977 (Portfolio) to her last output in 1989 with Bullet Proof Heart.
Her first compilation Island Life managed to compile tracks from every album (except for Muse) at the time, and it even presented her-then newest single: Slave to the Rhythm. The Compass Point Sessions focused entirely on her sessions with Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare (created by Island founder Chris Blackwell and image by Jean Poul-Goude), and other compilations such as her Millennium Collection and The Collection scattered tracks from various of albums (without much success, might I add).
Grace Jones’ career is parted in three sections: her disco years, her Compass Point Sessions years and everything else that followed. I realise that it might be hard to compile the Ultimate Collection if you don’t have much knowledge about her career, and I think that’s why so many of her compilations have been incomplete; the compilers had no idea what to put on the records, besides the obvious selections.
The Ultimate Collection is an extension of The Grace Jones Story, adding songs that are more important to her legacy (Slave to the Rhythm, especially) and removing songs that aren’t exactly classics (What I Did for Love and Someone to Love). Slave to the Rhythm is presented here by two tracks: an alternate take from the album, and the original single titled “hot blooded version.” This box set is as close as you can get to an ultimate Grace Jones collection, and unless Universal Music decides to put out yet another Greatest Hits by her, this box set is the one to get. A bonus disc is included with samples from her Compass Point Sessions double-album.
Why not re-release her albums and digitally re-master them? Most of her albums are readily available, but they could definitely benefit from today’s technology, and wasn’t Nightclubbing supposed to be released in a deluxe edition this summer? Please, Universal Music, this woman deserves to be recognised.
The artwork is less to be desired. On the front cover we have an image of Grace Jones that’s been used and recycled a million times, and the essay was basically copied off of The Collection’s liner notes.; no new images or illustrations of Grace, she looks better than ever, and some new pictures would definitely have improved this collection.
In conclusion, The Ultimate Collection is very deserving of its title; almost all of her greatest hits are included, and in re-mastered sound! The songs all sound better than ever, and it’s definitely the album to get if you’re an old (I’m 19 :D) fan like me, or a newcomer interested in finding something completely unique buried deep in the vaults of music history.

$9.79 Bananarama followed up their hit-laden True Confessions, which spawned their international chart-topping version of "Venus," with 1987's Wow! True Confessions witnessed the emerging role of Stock, Aitken & Waterman as the trio's producers -- Wow! was wholly assembled by the hitmaking team, which was also responsible for hits by Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Dead or Alive, Donna Summer, and countless others. This album is, therefore, a straightforward 1980s dance set, with several songs that went on to become international hits. The only track from this set to make the U.S. Top Ten was "I Heard a Rumour," a sassy, joyous single just as infectious today as when first released. Also included is the sleek, lip-smackin' disco hit "I Can't Help It," the engaging, ...

$14.35 You might not expect much from a Dylan tribute album limited to the artists of one small label, but if so, you're in for a surprise: This CD turns out to be every bit as inspired as anything on the all-star Madison Square Garden tribute that marked Dylan's 30th year in the music business. One reason is that the artists on the Red House label (which happens to be based in the state Dylan hails from) prove extremely well-suited to the task and well-matched to the material. Another is that that material is just so darn wonderful. There's no way a single disc could do justice to the mind-bogglingly large Dylan catalog; this could have been a ten- or 15-CD set and the quality wouldn't have flagged one bit. In fact, this collection doesn't even touch on ...
