The Varukers were anything but fading as they came to record One Struggle One Fight. No matter that five long years had elapsed since their fiery debut, nor that the band was locked into the same impending hardcore hell that had devoured so many of their early-'80s contemporaries. Still, the Varukers remained as determined and, on a good night, delirious as ever. Featuring 13 songs, including a couple of blazing live numbers ("Will They Never Learn" and "Enter of a New Phase"), One Struggle One Fight is a very good night indeed, machine-gunning slogans, rhythms, and breakneck guitar attack into the ether, and debuting the band's own label, Liberate, with passionate flair. But audience expectations were changing, the music scene in general was shifting, and the punk bands that had survived into the mid-'80s were essentially flying blind, uncertain what their fans now wanted and unsure whether they could deliver it. Two or three years earlier, One Struggle One Fight would have been proclaimed classic Varukers. In 1985, it scarcely registered. The band broke up just a year or so later. ~ Dave Thompson One Struggle One Fight Music | List Price | $21.98 (You save $0.33) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Punk CDs, Rock | | Label | Phantom | | Orig Year | 1985 | | All Time Sales Rank | 551555 | | CD Universe Part number | 7339154 | | Catalog number | 288 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jan 30, 2007 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Additional Info | United Kingdom |

One Struggle One Fight CD music
$14.30 Rush is no stranger to best-of compilation albums, they've released a slew of them. They are also no stranger to DVDs. To mark their 35th anniversary, they've released Working Men, which is both; it marks their first best-of live compilation exclusively from the DVD sets Rush in Rio (2003), R30 (2005), and Snakes & Arrows Live (2008). There is also an unreleased cut from R30 -- a killer version of One Little Victory. While fans may simply regard this as a record company cash grab, hardcore fans know how closely Rush monitors each release and controls all aspects of their career. On hearing these tracks without benefit of the visuals, it becomes lucidly clear that in the 21st century, Rush plays more like a hungry act looking to prove themselves rather than as seasoned veterans jaded by the entire business. The instrumental interaction between Neal Peart, Alex Lifeson, and Geddy Lee is utterly uncanny, the anticipation and the willingness to add flourishes and to challenge one another in the bridges and solo sections reveal their command of the material and their empathies for one another's playing strengths. One of the more revealing things on a live record ...
| | Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention Roxy & Elsewhere CD (1974) Remastered
One Struggle One Fight music CDs
$7.25 Pricipally recorded live at The Roxy, Hollywood, California from December 10-12, 1973; the Auditorium Theater, Chicago, Illinois in 1974; Edinboro State College, Edinboro, Pennsylvania on May 8, 1974.
It's no secret that one of the most powerful weapons in Zappa's arsenal was his sense of humor, which was at its height in live performance. Consequently, there's no better way to get a feel for the full scope of Zappa's music than on the live ROXY & ELSEWHERE. This set finds Frank at his mid-'70s peak, working with Ruth Underwood, Don Preston, George Duke, etc. While all the tunes are technically impeccable (often featuring trademark feats of counter-intuitive derring-do), it's Zappa's humorous interaction with the band and the audience that puts the real ...

| | Dexateens Red Dust Rising CD (2005)
One Struggle One Fight songs
$11.39 Now that the Drive-By Truckers have made it a bit less socially unacceptable to express an enthusiasm for Southern rock, the Dexateens -- who were wailing hard and blowing out amps on their self-titled debut -- have decided to embrace their Alabama roots with a set of tunes that owes more to Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Oak Arkansas than the Quadrajets or the Hellacopters. Much of Red Dust Rising sounds like it could have been recorded for Capricorn Records in the early '70s, but with one important difference -- while too many of the great Southern rock bands made records that polished off all their rough edges, Red Dust Rising leaves the grit intact and puts it front and center (and with Tim Kerr as your producer, you would expect nothing less). The easygoing but muscular guitar interplay of Elliott McPherson and John Smith packs a bit less wallop than it did on their first album, but still generates plenty of crunch and a potent undertow of redneck soul, with the occasional dollops of lap steel and banjo adding seasoning to the stew. Bassist Matt Patton and drummer Craig Pickering keep things simmering nicely despite the slower tempos; while these songs don't blaze, they add too much tension for anyone to call them "laid-back." And the best songs here, especially "Take ...
| | James Labrie Elements Of Persuasion CD (2005)
One Struggle One Fight album
$15.05 Clichés have a way of being overused, but some of them are so darn accurate that it's hard not to come back to them again and again. One such cliché is, "The more things change, the more they stay the same." That cliché applies to politics and economics, and it most certainly applies to music; James LaBrie's third solo project, Elements of Persuasion, is a perfect example. This 2005 release worships, cherishes and adores rock's past without being totally enslaved by it, and like a lot of the neo-soulsters who have managed to link the '60s and '70s with the '90s and 2000s (Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, among others), LaBrie has no problem drawing on different eras for inspiration. But the Dream Theater vocalist has nothing to do with R&B; his turf is hard rock, metal and progressive rock, and Elements of Persuasion is an album with both pre-Nevermind and post-Nevermind components. There is no getting around the abundance of '70s and '80s influences that assert themselves on this disc -- influences ranging from Ronnie James Dio, Judas Priest and Queensrÿche to the elaborate progressive rock of Yes, Kansas and Rush. But instead of being totally retro, Elements of Persuasion also draws on the chug-chug riffs and downtuned guitars of alternative rock metal, grunge and post-grunge; this is a CD that can make you think of Geddy Lee or Rob Halford one minute, and Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Incubus or Powerman 5000 the next (which ...
