| | Malani 'Til Now CD Malani Discography of CDs
Malani O’Toole grew up in the remote and scenic fishing town of Cordova, Alaska. She first recorded with "Bearfoot" at age 15. The group went on to win the "best new band" contest at Telluride...an honor previously bestowed on groups such as the Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek. Malani left Bearfoot to attend Stanford University where she finished her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Now she is back with this compelling debut solo album. "'Til Now" is filled with melodic, playful, and tender original songs that bridge the folk and pop genres. Visit malanimusic.com to learn more about Malani and her music. 'Til Now CD music
$13.15 After years of playing in dumpy San Francisco venues and several line up changes, BLATANT has responded with the release of Boy In The Mirror. Armed with nothing more than videotapes of shows and poorly recorded demos, frontman Joey D’Angelo partnered with San Jose based producers Gene Englegau and Miles Ito of Milestone Mediaworks. Eight months and 12 songs later, Boy In The Mirror was completed with D’Angelo playing every instrument on the album with the exception of percussion. Armed with a full fledged radio-ready studio album, BLATANT was joined by veteran South African guitarist Daniel Posthumos, the ever vigilant, PHD equipped bassist Frank Brazile, and San Diego transplant, Jason Forrest on drums. The four-piece combines to form one of the tightest, most powerful punk rock bands to hail from San Francisco in years. Playing only select venues in San Francisco, BLATANT belts out their powerful, comical, yet always uplifting songs to audiences eager for something other than the typical Bay Area noise. Regardless of how one chooses to describe BLATANT’s powerful melodies and “stick in your head” choruses, these ingredients clearly prove that there is a new musical gene pool in the Bay Area worthy of recognition. “I can remember playing at Kimo’s on a Tuesday night for six people,” muses D’Angelo, “but it’s taught me how ...

$12.69 From New York to GA, Atlanta, then VA: I grew up in New York listening to best the Hip Hop, as well as R&B, Jazz, and Reggae. I attended the same school as Public Enemy, Aaron Hall of Guy, Eddie Murphy, & other well known people. I left New York to attend college in Washington, DC. On returning, I joined a group as a back up singer and dancer. The group was called Body & Soul. The group broke up after the lead singer stole our prize money from talent shows we won. That turned me off from the business for a while. I left New York and moved to the ATL, also know as Atlanta. One thing that was funny about moving to Atlanta was that I saw more people that I knew from New York in Atlanta, than I did while I was in New York - I’m talking about people I went to high school with that I hadn’t seen in years. Going to Atlanta was like being a flower which was removed from a flower pot to a fertile garden. I wrote a lot of songs while there and also expanded on my other love, photography. Being there gave me the opportunity to meet and interact with so many talented people. Amongst them were Jermaine Dupri, Andre 3000 and Big Boi, of Outkast, The Goody Mob, Chili and T-Boz from TLC, LA Reid of LaFace Records, Little John, LL Cool J, Diddy, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, 112, and many others, not to mention the local talent. It was crazy back then, there were so many events and talent show cases going on, it was hard to keep up. Being around that scene just made me strive to continue writing and biding my time. I ended up moving to VA to be closer to family, especially my sister. I really missed her after having been split up because of divorce and parents with issues, since we were young teens. I took a hiatus from music at the time and decided to focus on work. I ended up getting a couple of good jobs with a major credit card company and then a major telecommunications company, so music really took a back seat for a while. I picked back up by producing a couple of visual and performing arts events which featured live music, spoken word, ...

$5.95 This Stallone soundtrack naturally oozes testosterone, and used to be the only place to get Sammy Hagar yelping over Eddie Van Halen runs (on bass no less) in the adrenalized "Winner Takes It All" (remember Hagar arm-wrestling Sly in the video?). "Winner" is actually one of the best cuts from the limp Van Hagar years. Of course, tender moments can be found as well: Kenny Loggins yearns to "Meet Me Half Way." Yes, this bombastic piece of fluff belongs on Top Gun, but it gets ya right here. Halfway between the power and the pansy stands Robin Zander (who had already ventured outside the Trick camp for the Rebbie Jackson duet "You Send the Rain Away"), who relays the solemn national anthem "In This Country." Over the Top is held together and composed (except for "Bad Nite" from Frank Stallone, who is Sly's brother) by disco brain Giorgio Moroder, who shows off in the instrumental "The Fight." In addition to Moroder, there is some formidable talent here (Asia, Eddie Money). ~ Doug Stone
