| | James Taylor In The Pocket CD - Import James Taylor Discography of CDs
"Shower The People," with its richly textured vocal harmonies, opens James Taylor's "IN THE POCKET and sets the tone for all that follows, a virtual pop vocal chorale. Choir boy Art Garfunkel takes a lush guest turn on "A Junkie's Lament" and "Captain Jim's Drunken Dream." On his satiric anthem to the almighty dollar "Money Machine," James is joined by vocal dancing partner Valerie Carter, and they move across the song like a funked-out Fred and Ginger. David Crosby, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, and James' brother Alex all drop by to lend a voice throughout the album. But the guest of honor has to be Stevie Wonder, who co-wrote "Don't Be Sad 'Cause Your Sun Is Down" with James, and contributes his always delightful and distinctive chromatic harmonica. IN THE POCKET is fresh, musically diverse, and fun, handily produced by Russ Titleman and Lenny Waronker.

Purchase In The Pocket CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Stan Ridgway Big Heat CD (1986)
In The Pocket album
$9.09 Reissued in 1993 with six fairly disposable bonus tracks, The Big Heat has Stan Ridgway's love of film noir and Jim Thompson-style stories splashed gaudily all over it. Curiously, though, the album is tremendous fun despite its dependence on synthesizers and tick-tock drum machine work. Ridgway's cynical delivery gives ...

$28.99 THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY is a collection of rare and unreleased Beatles recordings; a companion book and 10-hour video are also planned. Among the material on the first volume are recordings by The Quarry Men (a band that featured a teen-aged John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison); five songs from the Beatles' unsuccessful audition for Decca Records on January 1, 1962; live tracks from various television appearances; and alternate versions of several early Beatles songs.
Additional personnel includes: Tony Sheridan (vocals, guitar); Brian Epstein, Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise (spoken vocals); Andy White (drums).
Principally recorded between 1958 and 1964. "Free As A Bird" recorded circa 1977 and in 1994. Spoken tracks recorded between 1962 and 1994. Includes a 48-page booklet with track-by-track annotations, and liner notes by Derek Taylor.

| | Suicide First Album CDs (1977)
In The Pocket music CDs
$12.59 Seven years after the duo's inception, Suicide's debut album finally sneaked out in 1977 on the coat tails of the nascent New York punk scene. If its aim had been to confuse, startle, or repulse, SUICIDE succeeded in spades. By the same token, if a part-time sculptor and avant-garde jazz musician form a two-chord synthesizer duo and call it Suicide, commercial considerations are presumably low on their list of priorities. SUICIDE was a record destined to have future journalists reaching for words like "seminal". Synth duos start here.
SUICIDE's bleak, one-act plays of violence and sexual deviance, and that lo-fi monotone punctuated by sleazy groans and horrifying screams, still induce nervous tension despite the passing years. To hear Alan Vega, an Elvis caricature out of time, crooning "Girl" is unsettling enough. When he acts out the desperation of "Frankie Teardrop" over the strictly controlled minimalism of Martin Rev's grinding keyboard and time-bomb rhythm, you're guaranteed a listening ...
| | Gun Club Miami CD (1982)
In The Pocket songs
$11.55 While the Gun Club's debut, FIRE OF LOVE, was a masterpiece of untamed punk blues, follow-up album MIAMI, produced by Blondie's Chris Stein, achieves a fuller sound and a more varied stylistic palette without sacrificing any of its predecessor's intensity. ...
| | Curtis Mayfield Curtis CD (1970) Deluxe Edition
In The Pocket album
$9.09 CURTIS is the first solo album by R&B/soul legend Curtis Mayfield. After leaving the Impressions, Mayfield began to write lyrics that were more politically charged. With the 1970 release of CURTIS, he became one of the most important socially conscious artists of his generation. The album's opener, "(Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below We're All Going to Go" uses racial epithets openly, as Mayfield asserts the shiftlessness of America. Set to a funky groove, with smart horn arrangements and wah-wah guitar, this song is a brazen attack on social mores, racism, the Vietnam War, religious impropriety, ...

In The Pocket CD music
$15.95 Although Barbra Streisand has recorded for the same company, Columbia Records, throughout her career, her work has not been particularly well represented on compilations. Four single-disc best-ofs dot her discography, but the listener who wanted to do something as simple as purchase an album containing the original studio recordings of both her first Top Ten hit, "People," and her first number one, "The Way We Were," without plumping for the four-CD box set Just for the Record , was out of luck. Complicating the compiling of her career highlights is her position as essentially an album artist, despite having scattered 11 Top Ten pop hits across 32 years. The ideal collection would have to do justice to her popular early ...

| | Freddie & The Dreamers Ultimate Collection CDs (2006) Import; Remastered
In The Pocket songs
$11.65 Believe it or not, even the 62 songs squeezed onto this two-CD set don't quite cover all the material Freddie & the Dreamers released in the 1960s. But while this might not be the "Ultimate Collection" -- it would be necessary to wait for the unlikely prospect of a Freddie & the Dreamers box set for that to happen -- it is indeed the most comprehensive CD anthology of the British Invasion band. The first disc has the A-sides and B-sides of 16 of their 1963-1969 U.K. singles; the second disc has 30 "album tracks, EPs & rarities" from 1963-1966, though one of these, "Do the Freddie," was actually the group's sole Top 20 hit in the U.S. besides "I'm Telling You Now." Whether you need so much Freddie & the Dreamers, even if you're a die-hard British Invasion ...
