Kevin Costner, Ashton Kutcher, Sela Ward, Neal McDonough, Clancy Brown, and John Heard star. Extras include deleted scenes with optional commentary, never-before-seen alternate ending with introduction by director Andrew Davis, tribute to U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, making of footage, and audio commentary with director and writer. Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher team up in this torch-passing tale of the brave men and women in the Navy Coastguard elite rescue diver unit. A catastrophic rescue mission leaves him wounded after his wife (Sela Ward) walks out on him, so heavily decorated, reluctantly aging rescue diver Ben Randall (Costner) takes some leave from the ocean to assume instructor duties down at the naval training base. There his humorless pedagogy rubs a lot of trainees the wrong way, but a champion high-school swimmer, Jake (Kucher), has no problem keeping up, and it looks like old Ben may have found someone worthy to be his replacement. But first each man has to wrestle with his own personal demons...and each other. Under the no-nonsense direction of Andrew Davis (THE FUGITIVE, UNDER SIEGE), the visceral energy flows nonstop through this familiar but nonetheless riveting affair. Shot in a flat, matter-of-fact manner, the harshness of naval academy life is celebrated without being glamorized, while the rescues at sea are nothing short of hair-raising, making excellent use of CGI effects to plunge the viewer right into the towering waves and storms along with the divers. Several familiar, stalwart faces are on hand to help the boys become men and the men to accept aging gracefully, including John Heard, Clancy Brown, and Neal McDonough. Costner is perfect in a curmudgeonly role that fits him like a tailor-made wet suit. The real surprise is Kutcher, who seems to grow as an actor as his character grows as a person, revealing lots of murky depth. Bonnie Bramlet adds some sparkle as the singer at the local watering hole. Theatrical Release: September 29, 2006 Guardian Reviews: "[Costner] brings a seasoned, low-key authority to the part....Kutcher's performance manages to keep pace with Fischer's growing maturity."-- Matthew Leyland, Sight and Sound 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] very watchable drama....The personal conflicts are complemented by some terrific action sequences..."-- David Richardson, Ultimate DVD 3 stars out of 5 -- "[Kutcher] is running at full power throughout....There's real chemistry between Kutcher and Kev..."-- Ceri Thomas, Total Film "[A]n action movie, a basic training movie, a swaggering sea adventure, a home front melodrama and an inspiriting tough-love heroic fable."-- A. Guardian Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Brilliant! I just saw this movie tonight actually. When I saw it I thought of the great movies such as Top Gun, Titanic, Armaggedon, and one other movie I can not think of, which is combined all in One. Amazing Movie, to which I am not a type of person that likes much action pact in my movies. During this movie I also found out that an uncle of mine was one of the many great coast gaurds out east. This movie is a tribute to them far beyond anyone can say. Great Movie Directors. Awesome Acting..this is what you call a movie. :) Submitted by myvoicemydreams (South Dakota USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Awesome!! As a FireFigher/EMT i've seen movie's based on Fire,Police,EMS,Military, but never the Coast Guard. And I guess it's about time right?? Like the movie said about Katrina, I was their, and believe me the Coast Guard was their also. "So Others May Live" I love it! Like I said Its about time. Great movie all around. A must see, in my books. Next time I see a coast guardmen I'll say thanks, and to any member of are armed forces. GOD BLESS Submitted by Quinn (Abrams, WI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Guardian fails to protect This is an unnecessarily long film with fairly bland performances and stilted dialogue. If it weren't for the brilliant picture and sound of blu ray, I would not have sat through it to the end. Submitted by dgershon1 (New York City, NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? $23.45 Talking cars rediscover the quirky originality of middle America in this inventive animated film from the folks at Pixar (TOY STORY, FINDING NEMO). Owen Wilson does the voice of arrogant rookie racecar Lightning McQueen, who winds up stranded in the small desert town of Radiator Springs on his way west to a big showdown. Sentenced to community service after literally tearing up the road in a high-speed chase, at first all Lightning can think of is getting back to the world of corporate sponsorship and merchandising tie-ins he loves so well. Eventually, however, the eccentric residents ...

$11.79 Seeking respite from his fate with Davy Jones, Jack enlists the aid of Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), a practitioner of the supernatural, in an effort to locate the Dead Man's Chest that supposedly contains Jones's still-beating heart. Whoever possesses the heart controls Jones, and thereby controls the seas. And so the adventure continues as Jack, Will, and the Black Pearl crew track down the Flying Dutchman in search of redemption. This rollicking summer adventure, directed by Gore Verbinski (THE WEATHER MAN, THE RING), features multiple intersecting storylines, unique stunts, and a pithy script that lets each main character shine, while the costumes and makeup for Jones and his sea creature crew are nothing short of spectacular.

In 2004, a low-budget horror film about a man who put people with moral failings into grisly, murderous situations became a huge hit. In 2005, the sequel scored again, upping the body count and the terror. In 2006, the franchise continued, with plenty of gore as well as an emotional story line that delved into the psychological makeup of the main characters. As SAW II concluded, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was dying. But that doesn't mean his penchant for playing games of torture and violence is ending. In SAW III, the murders start occurring again, and Kerry (Dina Meyer) is back on the case, although she thinks this time it might be the work of a copycat. She's only partly right: Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the only victim to have survived both movies, has joined Jigsaw as his apprentice, leading the way through a terrifying game involving Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), a doctor in an unhappy marriage, ...

$10.25 British director Christopher Nolan's (BATMAN BEGINS) eclectic resume gains another interesting entry with THE PRESTIGE. The basic plot, which concerns the rivalry between two magicians in early 20th-century London, closely resembles a fellow 2006 movie--Edward Norton's THE ILLUSIONIST--and the two films are sure to be closely compared. In Nolan's film, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale bring the characters of Robert Angier and Alfred Bordon to life. Robert and Alfred were young magician apprentices together, but became bitter rivals as their careers began to shape their adult lives and a terrible accident claimed the life of Robert's wife. In the subsequent years Robert has become wildly jealous of Alfred's superior talents, so in a last ditch attempt to steal some artistic ground he sends his assistant, Olivia (Scarlett Johansson), to infiltrate his rival's lair and steal the secret to a spectacular trick called "The Transported Man."
Nolan's film twists and turns down a number of unexpected avenues ...

$10.25 Clint Eastwood's early-21st-century output has endeared him to Academy Awards voters, and he makes another bid for their attention with this tale of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima. Eastwood cuts back and forth between the battle that led to the flag being firmly planted in enemy soil, and the tour undertaken by three of the flag-planting Marines (played by Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach) in the aftermath of World War II. The re-creation of Iwo Jima features impressive APOCALYPSE NOW-style battle scenes, the air full of thick plumes of smoke, zinging bullets, and pounding explosions. But the most interesting part of the movie comes as the three men are paraded in front ...
