| | Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music: Vols. 1 & 2 CD (1987)
Uh-Lalala
$13.39 Originally released on Swallow (6011) in 1965 and Swallow (6019) in 1974. Includes French and English translations. Personnel: Harry Balfa, Rodney Balfa (vocals, guitar); Dewey Balfa, Will Balfa (vocals, fiddle); Burkeman Balfa (vocals, triangle); Marc Savoy (fiddle, accordion); Hadley Fontenot (accordion); Tony Balfa (drums, triangle). Translators: Barry Jean Ancelet; Floyd Soileau; Owen Demoruelle; Ron Stanford. The Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music, Vols. 1-2 combines both of the group's original Play Traditional Cajun Music albums onto one disc. The first volume was released on Swallow Records in 1965 and helped kick-start the Cajun revival of the '60s. It's an excellent album, featuring wonderful harmonies from Rodney, Will, and Dewey, as well as stellar instrumental work. The second volume, recorded and released in 1974, isn't quite as strong as its predecessor, but it is still very good and is filled with terrific music. Both albums represent the Balfa Brothers at their peak. They may have a number of very good albums in their catalog, but The Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music, Vols. 1-2 effectively explains what they are all about. ~ Thom Owens If you want to go straight to the source and hear real Cajun music without any hint of crossover, look to the Balfa ...
| | Bob Marley Live!: Live At The Lyceum CD (1975) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Uh-Lalala
$11.79 Additional Tracks
Bob Marley & The Wailers: Bob Marley (vocals, guitar); Al Anderson (guitar); Tyrone Downie (keyboards); Aston "Familyman" Barrett (bass); Crlton "Carly" Barrett (drums); Alvin "Seeco" Patterson (percussion). Additional personnel includes: Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths (background vocals). Reissue producer: Bill Levenson, Maxine Stowe. Recorded at The Lyceum, London, England on July 19, 1975. Originally released on Island (90032). All tracks have been digitally remastered. Personnel: Bob Marley (vocals, guitar); Al Yasha Anderson (guitar); Tyrone Downie (keyboards); Carlton "Carlie" Barrett (drums). Audio Mixer: David Harper. Recording information: Lyceum, London, England (07/19/1975). Photographers: Adrian Boot; Bob Ellis; Dennis Morris. Captured live in 1977 while on tour for the Exodus album, Live! At the Rainbow captures the Wailers, sans Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, at an ambitious stage of their career. Offering a more driven and tense show than the 1979 Santa Barbara concert that was released on DVD as Legend Live, Rainbow is as exhausting as it is rousing. Hits like "I Shot the Sheriff," "Jamming," and "Get Up, Stand Up" are more urgent than they would become in their later, more languid performances, ...
| | Dr Hook Bankrupt CDs (1975) (Import) England; Australia
Uh-Lalala
$8.29 1975 release from the country-ish pop band formerly known as 'Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show'. It was supposedly written and released at a time when the New Jersey band was experiencing an extreme shortage of funds. Features 'Only Sixteen', 'Levitate', 'Let Me Be Your Lover' and nine other tracks.
Country pop act Dr. Hook delivers 12 tracks with this 1975 release. Personnel: Dennis Locorriere, Ray Sawyer (vocals, guitar); Rik Elswit (guitar); Billy Francis (keyboards); John Wolters (drums). Liner Note Author: Glenn A. Baker. Unknown Contributor Role: Bob Henke. Not long after CBS dumped Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, Capitol took them under their wing just as the band was filing for bankruptcy (hence, the album title ), and after all the smoke cleared, they managed to put Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen" into the Top Ten in February of 1976. Although lead singer Ray Sawyer scaled the group's name down to simply Dr. Hook, the same couldn't be said for their ridiculous and empty-headed brand of AM flavored rock & roll. Efforts such as "Wups," ...

| | October File Long Walk On A Short Pier CD (2004)
Uh-Lalala
$12.05 Layers of scuzzy guitars, well placed melodies and murky hardcore aspirations. Reissue of their critically acclaimed album on mid price to celebrate support slots with Killing JOke and the Misfits.
Personnel: Matt Lerwill (vocals, guitar); Steve Beatty (vocals, keyboards). Recording information: Outhouse Studio (2004). Author: Albert Einstein. Long Walk on a Short Pier will not win any awards for subtlety. On this inspired debut, October File provides a loud, harsh, abrasive and dissonant alternative rock/punk/hardcore assault -- one that gets in your face and does so without apology. The British band is certainly relevant to the hardcore scene, although October File aren't screamo any more than they are metalcore; rather, their hardcore moves are coming from more of a post-Black Flag, post-Fear, post-Dead Kennedys perspective. And there are also hints of industrial rock in some of their material; October File, like Ministry and many other industrial rockers, aren't afraid to use samples to their creative advantage. But Long Walk on a Short Pier isn't overly electronic-sounding, and most of the time, this is a very guitar-powered album. It's also a very angry album -- angry when it comes to politics, angry when it comes to romantic love. "God Hates America," a caustic political rant that would please Rage Against the Machine and Public Enemy, slams ...

| | Star's End Escape CD (2009)
Uh-Lalala
$12.55 From the opening notes, The Escape creates a sonic landscape that is easy to get lost in. On this album, their first, Oregon trio Star's End, Andres Caputo (electric and acoustic guitar and vocals), Jason Ray (bass and vocals) and J.R. Bellizzi (drums), embrace their classic rock and alternative influences and combine them into something that sounds different than your traditional modern radio rock. The Choice begins with dreamy droning guitars and bass but quickly brings up the energy level (and the volume) as Caputo hits the distortion and wails through the final vocal lines before the song transitions seamlessly in the second track: Alarm. Like The Choice, Alarm features one continuous bass line with guitar and vocals that go from quiet to loud and back again. The Same Trip layers vocals and distorted guitars in conjuring early Smashing Pumpkins. Floating Above the Sea, It’s Not You and Never Wander showcase Star’s End’s pop sensibilities and their fondness for Pink Floyd, with delayed vocal tracks and a hint of psychedelia. The Stillness is a clash of styles, with a 3 minute instrumental intro leading into a driving alt-rock song with a Nirvana-esque feedback fadeout. ...
