| | Patrick O'Hearn Glaciation CD (2007)
Attempting Emotion CD music
$12.59 Patrick O’Hearn: Glaciation (self-released)It’s been awhile since a disc of ethereal, slow-moving instrumental music (this once would have been called “new age”) has captured my imagination like Patrick O’Hearn’s Glaciation has. Like the glaciers and icebergs that adorn the lovely CD package, these compositions have a spare, mysterious, other-worldly beauty. I mean to pay this release a high compliment when I note that some of this music recalls the most evocative work of Brian Eno, in the way O’Hearn places the instruments in different ambient fields and the way the tunes unfold so naturally and majestically. But far from being just a keyboard/synth workout, this features many other textures, from pulsing basses to electric Hawaiian guitar (recalling Eno’s gorgeous Apollo) ...

| | Justice Cross CD (2007)
Attempting Emotion songs
$11.65 It could be said that electronic musicians have a tendency to obsess over sonic detail in a way that your average garage rock band may find hard to understand. The young Parisian duo Justice (Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay), seem, for the most part, unfettered by niceties such as sonic subtlety or restraint. Combining French-touch house with large doses of heavy-metal hedonism, the group's debut, CROSS, privileges rock's devil-may-care mid-range thrash over electro's low-frequency thump.
The album, in classic rave style, is all about colossal riffs. Whether through its swirling synth sweeps or pile-driving funk loops, CROSS ...

Attempting Emotion album
$7.19 My full name is Benjamin Alexander Seifert, but I am most commonly known by Alex Seifert. I was born on September 16, 1987 in Denver, Colorado. I speak English, German, and Japanese. My interests include making music (obviously), learning languages, sleeping, badminton, photography, webdesign, graphics design, and other thing various things that are too many to list here. My interest in making music began when a friend of mine showed a program he purchased for the computer. It included pre-recorded, royal-free loops, of which the average Joe could drag onto a time line and have his or her own song finished within minutes. That looked like fun, so I went out and purchased a program similar to his. At the time I was using an Apple Macintosh, so I purchased the brand new Garageband which Apple had just newly released. I played with it and played with it and played with it. My first few songs were something of a mess, but I kept playing and trying new things all the same. Eventually, my Apple iBook that I had been using died. That meant I had to purchase another program for a Windows PC, since I did not have to money to buy another Apple Macintosh. The program I purchased was a small program, which did not include pre-recorded loops. This meant I had to find another way to make music. I quickly found a cheap solution, and borrowed a keyboard one of my good friend's older brother had, but did not use for making music anymore. In fact, he had used it as a paint ball target for quite some time. Fortunately, it still worked. And with a little cleaning, it was as good as new (except a bit sticky). Without any pre-recorded loops to aide my music creation, I had to learn how to play the keyboard. After several attempts at it, it seemed hopeless. I took a break from music creation for a while. One day, when cleaning up my room, I found the keyboard again which I had stuffed into a corner. I pulled it out, dusted it off, plugged it in, and tried again. This time I had more success. ...

Attempting Emotion CD music
$9.35 First it was the punk band. Frozen fingers in a corrugated metal pole barn, the only warmth a fire burning deep inside; crafting as best able a caustic fusion of rhythm and melody. Hand me down equipment, often chattering teeth and numb fingers, the group hurdled many obstacles with their unshakeable desire to create music. With an occasional outside gig and a series of ridiculous stunts and scenes during their high school years, the group honed their songwriting and performance skills in a standard guitar/bass/drums/vocal format, until they began to dabble in writing and recording using computer software. The pair played with the family PC at greater and greater volumes; cursing quietly each time the bargain basement hard drives maxed out and crashed. Undaunted, determined, and finding themselves awash in the limitless ...

| | Big Trouble CD (2006)
Attempting Emotion songs
$16.45 Big Trouble is a project that has been in the making for most of Jeff Bigelow's musical life. The styles and influences that have come together in this collection reflect a deep love of blues, funk, soul, jazz and sampling/scratching as expressed through vintage guitars and amplifiers and vocal interpretations of these many styles. After a decade as the guitarist of the Oakland, California based blues and soul band Mojo Deluxe, Jeff Bigelow embarked on the two year project that has produced his debut solo CD.The result is Big Trouble, a potent mix of blues, funk, soul and groove, with vintage guitar tones, rare samples, scratching and genre blending arrangments."SF Bay Area legend Jeff Bigelow takes a myriad of styles and melds them into what will likely be one of the best discs of 2007. Not your standard electric blues ride. More a roller coaster journey through a multi-colored musical landscape. And of course that unmistakable incendiary guitar sound of Bigelow's ...
