From the liner notes...We are very excited to release this CD of holiday music. Our goal is to present music that is both familiar and pleasing in new, exciting and interesting (dare we say clever!) ways. All of the arrangements are the brainchild of our good friend David Gilliland. The styles are a fusion of both traditional and contemporary jazz and classical music - often sharply juxtaposed. While most of the tracks on this album rely on the foundation of the brass quintet, several utilize percussion, bass, flute and vocals to broaden the the timbral palette. The music ranges from the traditional, such as 'Low How Rose E'er Bloometh', through big-band jazz like 'Santa Baby', to modern treatments of carols, such as 'Do You Hear What I Hear?'.
