The sheer ferocity and emotion that channels through each of the intricate, progressive guitar melodies shatters every low opinion of the American metal scene. When you combine Chuck Schuldiner's shrieking vocals (his eeriest performance ever) with the most talented, cohesive lineup yet, you get the definitive Death album. Art Farmer put together New York Jazz Sextet in 1965 (not long after he had switched from trumpet to flugelhorn for good), featuring James Moody(tenor sax and flute), trombonist Tom McIntosh, pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath.
