| | High Kings CD (2008) Digipak
Tengokunouta CD music
$14.89 The debut album by the High Kings was issued by the same folks who had a hand in Celtic Woman and Riverdance, and consists of easy listening and buffed-and-polished Irish folk music of appeal to an audience that is comparatively massive for the world music fringe: this album made the lower levels of the Billboard Top 200 album chart. The High Kings is glossy and polite -- targeted perhaps toward listeners who enjoyed the pennywhistle on Celine Dion's ...

| | Fabulous Wailers CD (1959)
Tengokunouta album
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another ...
| | Hanggai Introducing CD (2008)
Tengokunouta CD music
$9.75 It's not what you'd expect -- a group from Beijing, mostly comprised of Mongolians, playing horsehair spike fiddles and two-string lutes, with Central Asian overtone signing -- and sounding at times remarkably like the Velvet Underground. But that's exactly what this six-piece manages, thanks in part to the droning, monotone quality of many of the songs ...
| | Gloria Estefan Greatest Hits V.2 CD (2001) (Import) Germany
Tengokunouta music CDs
$8.79 Principally recorded at Crescent Moon Studios, Miami, Florida. Includes liner notes by Gloria Estefan.
"Out Of Nowhere" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Volume two of the GREATEST HITS of Gloria Estefan contains the songs "Turn the Beat Around," "Everlasting Love," and "Music of My Heart," among others.
The mere fact that the career of Miami's favorite Latin diva Gloria Estefan demands a second Greatest Hits volume should be an indication of her pop culture impact and iconic status. The disc starts out with Estefan's reinterpretations of two pop classics: "Turn the Beat Around" and "Everlasting Love," both of which become more danceable in her hands than one ever would have thought possible. The mood then shifts sharply with ...
| | George Formby England's Famed Clown Prince Of Song CDs (2004) (Import) Box Set; United Kingdom
Tengokunouta songs
$26.99 George Formby was an entertainer in the great British music hall tradition who was much loved for his jaunty and engagingly silly songs, many of which were dotted with mild double entendre humor (such as "The Window Cleaner" and "My Plus-Fours"). Entertainers of Formby's era (he was at his most famous in the 1930s and '40s) were almost never asked to reinvent themselves -- they knew what their audiences wanted of them, and they were happy to deliver it time and time again, which is certainly borne out by this box set, which features no fewer than 120 Formby recordings cut between 1926 and 1939. Formby rarely if ever strays from form on England's Famed Clown Prince of Song -- except for a very few spoken comedy routines and medleys of popular tunes of the day, pretty much everything here features Formby's cheeky Scouse accent, his enthusiastic ukulele playing, and his playful songs, whose wink-wink nudge-nudge humor is buffered by the open-faced innocence of his personality. (Those East Indians, Asians, and French folk in the audience might be a shade less forgiving of Formby's ethnic humor, though it was hardly considered out of line in its day.) Which is to say this set offers more George Formby than anyone other than a deeply devoted fan would ever need; any one disc will give you a healthy sampling of his music and wit, while the whole of this collection amounts to an overdose. ...
