Guitarist-songwriter-singer Lewis Taylor is usually touted as a neo-soul artist, but THE LOST ALBUM falls much more in line with classic pop and rock. Sunny, airy hooks abound, electric guitars chime and sing, and the tunes bear the mark of true tunesmithery. The Beatles and latter-period Beach Boys are obvious touchstones, but Taylor brings his own personal stamp to the proceedings, crafting a lushly inviting popscape that bears up to repeated listens. Fans of Taylor's neo-soul efforts may be surprised, but it's unlikely they'll be disappointed.

That renaissance gal is at it again. As in THE BODYGUARD, Whitney Houston does double duty as star and soundtrack provider for THE PREACHER'S WIFE. Don't look for her to be sticking to the commercial pop-R&B sound that served her so well on her last soundtrack album, though. THE PREACHER'S WIFE finds Houston reaching back to her roots in gospel, and collaborating with some stellar gospel artists, including her mother, Cissy.
Several cuts here, including "Hold On, Help Is On The Way" and "I Go To The Rock," ...
| | Barry White Unlimited CDs (2009) With Book; With DVD; Box Set; Special Edition
Lost Album CD music
$65.35 UNLIMITED is more substantial than it appears. Looking like a five-dollar box of chocolates, with its contents printed on a large black sticker slapped onto the back, it improves upon 1992's JUST FOR YOU box in breadth and (once you open the thing) presentation. The only potential problem for some listeners is that 20 of the songs appear in "alternate versions" -- a gentle way of saying "2009 remixes." The mixes were done by Jack Perry, Barry White's musical director and engineer, and they do retain the integrity of the originals. One would have ...

This confusing release packages two minor ska releases together, offers two remix tracks, and misspells "millennium" on the front and back cover. The first disc is called "The Very Best of the Specials and Fun Boy Three," but it's subtitled "Featuring Neville Staples." This footnote makes it clear that the versions of Specials and Fun Boy classics like "Rude Boys Outta Jail" and "Our ...
