| | Jeff Lopez Sun And The Rain CD (1998)
Sounds Of The Tropics songs
$11.39 Jazz with a New York flavor.Featuring:Craig Handy -SaxJoel Frahm -SaxUri Caine- PianoTom Guarna- GuitarRodney Holmes- DrumsJeff Lopez- Bass/ ComposerThe artists on this disk have been featured with musicians such as: Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans, Dave Douglas,Kenny Werner, Micheal and Randy Brecker , Lenny White, The Yellowjackets, Carlos Santana and many moreThe Sun and the Rain is Jeff Lopez' first recording. The CD contains 8 original compositions. The songs have a distinct and unique quality to them. Jeff was born and raised in the Big Apple. Rebelling against his fathers interest in Classical music Jeff found delight in improvised music. Being denied a drum kit in his early teens he borrowed his brothers bass (when he wasn't looking!) and found himself a life long love and a channel with which to express himself freely. As a late starter (15yrs old), Jeff was determined to catch up to his peers and with his determination and drive soon managed to excel. Accepted at Berklee College of Music Jeff earned a Bachelors of Music and attend Manhattan School of Music for his graduate studies on The Eubie Blake Scholarship, receiving his Masters of Music in '93. Jeff is a 2005 recipient of the Maryland State Council for the Arts Grant (Composition/ Large Jazz Ensemble) and a2004 recipient of the Maryland State Council for the Arts Grant (Solo Bass) Jeff has performed with many great musicians over the years including Kenny Werner, Phil Woods,Dave Douglas, Hank Levy, Jean "Toots" Thieleman, Rick Margitza, Craig Handy, Ted Curson, Bernard Purdie, Junior Mance, Dick Oatts, Harold Danko, Kenny Drew Jr., Gary Thomas, Gary Bartz. His touring has taken him to 35 countries and 49 of the 50 states. He is still waiting for the Alaska gig! Jeff has even managed to impress his father by playing at Carnegie Hall, NYC, (practice, practice, practice!) As with Charles Mingus, Charlie Haden and Jaco, Jeff is not only an accomplished bassist but bandleader, composer and arranger also. Jeff was influenced by all these great bassists but none more so than Jaco, having studied with him in the 80's. With the recent CD of all original tunes, a second CD of original tunes underway, and his big band charts being played by military and university bands, Jeff has shown he can hold his own under the titles Bandleader/Composer/Bassist and Educator. Check them out you won't be disappointed. You can order a copy of the CD Which is available on this website.Jeff 's interview with THE CAPITOL, Annapolis, MD Newspaper.Hanover composer gets music ...
| | Alan, Ras & The Lions Native CD (2006)
Sounds Of The Tropics album
$15.19 Ras Alan's album NATIVE is the first "Appalachian Reggae" CD.NATIVE was released in 1993 to popular and critical acclaim. The album enjoys airplay from Ontario to Guam to Barcelona to local radio stations WETS, WNCW, WMMT, WNAA, WXDU and others in Appalachia, and has shipped to Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Spain, the continent of Africa, and across the USA.NATIVE is one of three of Ras Alan's albums housed in the Permanent Archives of the Smithsonian Institution, representing "Contemporary Southern Appalachian Music and Culture".The album includes "Many Names," "Textile Town" "Live it Up, Rasta!" and "Risin' Sun". The song "Herb Revenooer" featured on the album was the most requested song for a time on KPRG Guam radio and western North Carolina's "Dub Atomic Particles" on WNCW fm. NATIVE was recorded in analog (for the serious bass and drum sounds, plus it was 1992!) at Beechwood Recording Studios, Weaverville, NC. Ras Alan and his touring and recording band, THE LIONS, recorded all original material they had been performing on tour in 1992. The tightness and excitement is well evident. The bass, drums, keyboard and guitar "riddim" section recorded live simultaneously, with the vocals, saxophones, harmonica, melodica, percussion and guitar solos added.NATIVE features RAS ALAN on vocals, acoustic, electric and slide guitars, ashiko and percussion, Billy "JAH LIFE" Flynt on Steinberger bass, Adam "AD" Sitnick on drumkit, Robert "BROTHER BOB" Franklin on harmony vocals, keyboards and melodica, Frank "SUNSHINE" Southecorvo on alto and baritone saxophones, "JAH P" Delanoye on harmonica and Toby "TOB-I" Halton on harmony vocals. Van Atkins engineered the sessions to 16 track analog reels, and the album was mixed by Ras Alan to the digital DAT format. NATIVE was originally released by Red Pepper Records in 1993 on CD and cassette. Also available are Ras Alan's FOLKLIFE (2006) recorded live at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, during the "Year of Appalachia" celebrations and his LETTER FROM APPALACHIA (2002) considered by the Grammy© committee ...

Sounds Of The Tropics album
$19.99 PRESS REVIEWS:"A beautifull interpretation."(Gurdjieff International Review)"Hidden Sources is an excellent CD. The all production is superb and Alessandra Celletti plays like piano magician". (Thomas Tamvakos - Archive of Greek Classical Composers)"Beautiful and inspiring!" (Charles T. Tart - Institute of Transpersonal Psychology]"Hidden Sources contains the most representative and best selection of the Gurdjieff / de Hartmann music I've heard on a single CD. Alessandra Celletti's interpretations are as sensitive and as idiosyncratic as Glen Gould's. Her playing and selection are exceptional."(J. Walter Driscoll - author of "Gurdjieff: an annotated bibliography" (1985)/"Gurdjieff: a reading Guide" (1999) "Every note carves a profile, designs a curve, each key reveals a mountain, a cheekbone, a perfume, a spiritual landscape. Sacred dances for sceptical travellers of knowledge. Immense." (Marco Boccitto - Il Manifesto - Italy)"Alessandra Celletti gives magical ...
