| | Ann Arbor Vineyard Learning Curve CD Ann Arbor Vineyard Discography of CDs
This isn't your normal church CD release. The following collection of songs comes from musicians who regard the Vineyard Church of An Arbor as their 'home' church. Instead of the usual collection of worship songs (as you might reasonably expect from a church CD), this CD contains an eclectic mix of songs and styles from musicians who don't believe in the 'Sacred/secular divide' (regarding music) that so often accompanies what one might call a 'traditinally churched' mindset. I concure with Duke Ellington on the matter; for it was he who said:"There are only two kinds of music, good and bad". If there is a creator God: and at Ann Arbor Vineyard we believe that to be the case; Then it must follow that he also created the very idea of music and that he also gave us the ability: (as we are made in His image): to createively make music for Him, for ourselves, and for others to enjoy, (or not, as the case may be.) Music is also used as part of our intimate relationship with Him during our worship times, when we are âhome aloneâ in worship, and when we come together for our celebrations. Over the years, I know I have had more intimate times with God while listening to what a traditionally churched mindset might regard as âsecular musicâ.Just one for instance from my own taste and perspectives:God made Stevie Ray Vaughan; SRV made blues music:SRVâs music has stopped me in my tracks, made me laugh/cry/weep for joyAt the sheer virtuosity and gifting poured out into his tragically short life.I know I have been healed listening to Stevieâs âblues powerâ.Music is a very subjective experience for all of usSome of the styles on this CD. Learning Curve: âelectic grooves from an eclectic churchâ which the Vineyard church of Ann Arbor is), may not be to your taste(s). But hey! Itâs an eclectic mix of songs from an eclectic mix of people. So whaddya want for your money?Mike BrooksWorship DirectorAnn Arbor Vineyard, Michigan. $12.69 I currently live in Bellevue Washington with my wife and son.I was born and mostly raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Graduated from Saguaro grade school and Moon Valley High School. I first learned to play the guitar as a junior in high school (1976) when I picked up my mothers 1958 Harmony archtop f-hole jazz guitar. Learned the required John Denver songbook and some Jim Croce tunes. After high school there were a few open mic nights and some jam sessions with local acoustic artists, but life started calling and music became a hobby instead of a profession.I moved to Washington in May of 2001. I continued to play off and on (mostly off) until I married my wife Diana in 2003. With her inspiration the passion for writing music began again. Since June of 2003 I've written about 50 or 60 songs and these are some of them.I Write using a Martin Cowboy II, and record using a Gretsch Jumbo cutaway. One of the reasons I named the CD 'one man show in a one dog town' was because I did all the recording work on the CDs, played all the guitar tracks, sang lead and harmony vocals. Took most of the pictures, designed the cover and burned the CDs. So it really is a one man show at the moment. The CDs were recorded using a Tascam 8-track DP-01 digital recorder. Then transfered to wav files with Nero Wave editor and burned onto CD-R using Cakewalk Pyro. I also design my own web pages and others on a 'not quite for profit' basis. I've created pages for some of my friends including -Bill Hranek - a Musician and DJ in Phoenix, Arizona. And Bob Debruyn - a Painter and Musician in Seattle, Washington.About the songs: One Man Show. - My favorite kind of music is the old folk style of one person and one guitar, which I tried on a couple of occasions in the late 70's.Portrait of Milton - A friend of mine had to have her dog put to sleep and the only way she could get through the grief was to paint portraits of him. That's how I intended to write the song. It ended up being a love story of two people who met on ...
