Faithful fans will be the first to admit that heavy metal is rarely sexy (sexist? Yes; sexy? No), but Echoes of Eternity are clearly a band at ease with their sexuality -- or at least at ease with letting vocalist Francine Boucher flaunt her sexuality. (Not a bad way to start a review: with five out of forty words being variations of "sex.") Unfortunately, as fetching as she may be, Echoes of Eternity's frontwoman rarely manages to establish herself as a focal point on their 2007 debut, The Forgotten Goddess, based solely on her vocal talents. To be fair, her failure can be blamed in part on the overbearing nature of the group's music, which consists of intricately arranged extreme metal riff and percussive constructions, regularly offset by copasetic and counterpoint melodies. Although these elements offer an impressive range of dynamic variety, often mirroring the work of Canadians Into Eternity, they simultaneously leave little room for the vocalist to take command of any given song (particularly Byzantine exercises like "Expressions of Flesh" and "The Kingdom Within"), only suffocating Boucher's timid crooning, instead. What's more, her efforts are in no way assisted by less-than-inspired lyrics and choruses (regularly repeated ad nausea, as in the title track), making it clear that Echoes of Eternity is a musicians' band, first and foremost, with Boucher's presence seemingly a mere afterthought. In any case, it results in just a few successful marriages of voice and instrumentation (see "Voices in a Dream" and "Lost Beneath a Silent Sky"), but won't easily meet the lofty expectations of fans accustomed to contemporary bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, and After Forever -- all of which feature similarly stunning, classically trained operatic powerhouses wielding their lead microphones. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Echoes Of Eternity Forgotten Goddess Songs Forgotten Goddess Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Awesome!! This is one of my favorites CDs ever!!Everything about this band is just awesome!! Submitted by Summersx (Salvador) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Powerful Debut! Echoes Of Eternity is a band that is a very nice change of pace as far as female fronted rock bands are concerned. Their debut album THE FORGOTTEN GODDESS is a very solid release that features eight hard hitting, double bass drumming metal anthems along with two instrumentals. Francine Boucher's voice reminds me of a mix between Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil and Liv Kristine of Leaves' Eyes. Unlike those two bands though, Echoes Of Eternity have made the decision to allow Francine to handle all of the vocal duties on her own instead of allowing the typical, ugly sounding male grunter/growler to come in and destroy the beauty of her voice (unfortunately unlike many other potentially amazing female fronted bands). The "beauty and the beast" vocals are gone. Instead you have the brutal drumming and guitar work to play 'the beast' to counter the hauntingly beautiful vocals, and I much prefer it like this. While a few of the songs tend to sound a bit similar, overall I think every song has it's strong points and I tend to not skip any tracks. My favorites on the album are "Voices In A Dream", "The Kingdom Within", "The Forgotten Goddess", "Circles In Stone" and "Expressions Of Flesh". Awesome New Band to the Progressive Scene This band has a killer mix of music styles. The lead singer has a very hypnotic sound to her voice and fits so well with the style of the band. I am very impressed with this addition to my collection. Can't wait for their next one. Submitted by k_trem (Nashua New Hampshire) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Forgotten Goddess songs
$13.85 On Feeding the Wheel, Jordan Rudess has modernized the keyboard sounds pioneers like E. Power Biggs, Rick Wakeman, Gary Wright, Alan Hovhaness, and Keith Emerson broke ground with. The latter-day third ivory player in Dream Theater takes Gary Wright's Dream Weaver a step or two into the twilight zone. "Headspace" is a nice moody piece, kind of like Edgar Froese outside of Kraftwerk with more activity in the mix. "Quantum Soup" features Steve Morse of the Dregs on guitar solo with Terry Bozzio of Missing Persons playing percussion, the first of eight numbers the ex-Zappa drummer provides the bottom for. Track two has its own evolution, from jazz/progressive rock to a bassy funk eight minutes into the tune, with the 11 minutes of "Quantum Soup" melting nicely into the six minutes of "Shifting Sands." The spaced notations in the CD booklet are vaguely familiar, that aforementioned Dream Weaver concept a simplified version of this. "We all feed wheels that carry our hopes and dreams to another day" is the sentiment written by Rudess, and those thoughts are unleashed in music which will appeal to fans of Dream Theater and ELP and those who feel Steely Dan is too mainstream. "Revolving Door" could be ...
