Patrick Gubler a.k.a. P.G. Six has always made music that defies easy categorization. Light years ahead of his contemporaries--he was playing accomplished acoustic sets well before the early-2000s freak folk explosion--Gubler has always let deft songwriting, multi-instrumental chops, and impeccable taste rule. 2007's SLIGHTLY SORRY, his fourth album and first for Drag City, revisits many of the touchstones that have defined his remarkable career. He reins in his more expansive tendencies without losing his Richard Thompson-esque guitar flourish. The jamming is still present here, but it is muted ala Neil Young's ON THE BEACH --an album which SLIGHTLY SORRY, with its weary melodies and Wurlitzer/guitar interplay, often recalls.
P.G. Six: Pat Gubler (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, hurdy-gurdy, recorder, electric piano, Wurlitzer piano, Clavinet, organ, Hammond b-3 organ, Mellotron, acoustic bass guitar); Debby Schwartz, Megan Reilly, Sue Garner, Helen Rush (vocals); Bob Bannister (electric guitar, Fender Rhodes piano); Steve Connolly (bass guitar); Robert Dennis (drum, percussion).
Q (p.115) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's a faithful reading of the traditional 'Lily Of The West', 'I've Been Traveling' comes with distinctly Byrds-like guitars, while 'The Dance' rolls along like classic Americana..." Uncut (p.88) - 4 stars out of 5 --[A] beguiling mix of classic Laurel Canyon songwriting and the woodier vibes of the old world." Slightly Sorry album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."

| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Slightly Sorry CD music
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch ...
| | Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning CD (2005)
Slightly Sorry music CDs
$10.79 In early 2005, young indie icon Conor Oberst (AKA Bright Eyes) unveiled two full-length albums--I'M WIDE AWAKE, IT'S MORNING and DIGITAL ASH IN A DIGITAL URN. Whereas the latter proved to be a departure into electronic music, the former sticks to Oberst's established sound, which combines the urgency and heart-on-the-sleeve sentiment of emo-rock with twangy, down-home feel of alt-country and folk music.
I'M WIDE AWAKE begins with Oberst telling a story that morphs into "At the Bottom of Everything," a jangly, upbeat tune featuring My Morning Jacket's Jim James on backing vocals. Throughout the record, Oberst reaches nearly hysterical peaks, seemingly overcome with emotion as his wavering voice, which often recalls ...

| | Sindust Back From The Back CD (2008)
Slightly Sorry CD music
$16.45 Since its inception, Ohio-based alternative rockers Sindust have progressed a great deal with each new musical release, culminating with their latest offering…..the newly released 14-song back from the back. This disc, which features the distinct SINDUST sound with all lyrics written by lead vocalist/guitarist Chris Donley and all music by Donley & Sindust. As one of the group's founding members, lead vocalist/guitarist Chris Donley has written virtually thousands of songs, having started young at age 13 or 14. He grew up listening to bands like Pantera, Smashing Pumpkins, and Jane's Addiction while teaching himself to play guitar……..his parents gifted him with his first in eighth grade. He first met Sindust drummer Tom Phillips at school while the two were playing in separate bands……Donley playing bass & doing vocals for the group Chisel and Phillips drumming for Vyle. A mutual musician friend introduced them; they hit it off musically and Sindust was formed. Phillips grew up in a somewhat musical household………listening to his dad playing The Doors, Three Dog Night, Jimi Hendrix and Iron Butterfly. His parents got him a toy drum set at age four to keep him from banging on the kitchen pots & pans, but his first serious musical instrument was the cello, which he started playing in 4th grade at school. A real drum kit came shortly after that, in 6th grade, and Phillips later became influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Rush and Phish.Donley & Phillips soon found other musicians with the right chemistry to round out the Sindust sound. Since then, there have been some personnel changes and the current line up features powerful guitarist Aaron Nichols and bass player extraordinaire Mark Gordon. Nichols grew up in Wooster, Ohio listening to his mother's 70's R & B favorites like The Temptations, Tina Turner & Michael Jackson, and his dad's 70's rock classics like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Rush and Black Sabbath. Mark Gordon is the newest member of Sindust.. Prior to that he played with ...
